Just imagine if there were no religious charitable organizations in the world. Think of all the homeless, starving people who would never have been helped. Yes, we still have homelessness and hunger, but think of the vast millions of dollars in relief that have been provided by Christian and Jewish charities alone, not to mention other faith-based groups. Religious organizations have historically tended to promote charity more than secular groups.

It can unite a community towards a common good.

In the USA, the abolitionist movement was based in religion. In India, Gandhi was similarly moved by his religious beliefs. There have been many anti-war movements led by religious groups as well.

Currently there are religious groups in Africa working to help poverty (let's ignore those groups that are not letting ppl hand out condoms). Religous groups often help in the wake of disasters as well (Katrina, the Tsunami)

There are many ways and I'm sure you know that. What people should remember though is that there are NO ways in which religion is good that non-religion cannot also be good. There are many ways that non-religion can be good that religion can't.

religion can be good because it provides a societal norm. It can also provide a cultural binding in otherwise diverse groups. it provides comfort, and charity to the sick and the weak....by the way, all religions provide these benefits irrespective of which Deity,or Deities they worship.

P.S. when I ran spellcheck, why did it make me capitlize Diety, but not Dieties

It fulfills me. Without my religion, there'd be a void. I'm not saying Atheists and Agnostics have that void, because it's obvious that they don't. But I love my religion, and it is the best thing in my life. Everything else in the world can screw me over, but the Gods won't. Blessed be.

The best way to make religion good is not to undertake one religion but to be one with yourself in mind body and soul tell no one and believe in what you believe. Then you are not harming anyone.

sad.
Religious people tend to live decent lives-law abiding citizens.
Good defeats evil.
Good people do good.

World is at least better off with people who tolerate "GASP" others.

rather than those who keep throwing darts : I'm not smart or trying to be but????

religion keeps you free...to throw those darts...

Buddhism is based in logic and has done much good for the world...

"Believe nothing.
No matter where you read it,
Or who said it,
Even if I have said it,
Unless it agrees with your own reason
And your own common sense"
