In my professional experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Educator , most patients on Prozac said that it made them feel "wired" and complained of difficulty falling asleep. Of course every individual has their own unique response to medication. Other factors such as patient's age, sex, weight, dosage of Prozac, presenting medical symptoms, other medications patient is taking, duration of time patient has been taking Prozac, etc. all influence the side effects that the patient experiences. Some patients first starting on Prozac find that it initially leaves them feeling drowsy but this tends to subside after beeing on the medication 4 to 6 weeks. Since the medication is tending to make you sleepy the best time for you to take it would be around bedtime. If you begin to experience nervousness and insomnia then a more appropriate time for you to take your medication would be at breakfast time. I acknowledge you for seeking information regarding your medications but always check out your individual sources when medical issues are involved. Good luck to you and God bless.

Yes, it made me very sleepy no matter if I took it in the morning or the evening. I was sleeping all the time. One thing I have learned with prozac and similar medicines that are sedating is that if you add a small dose of wellbutrin to it (aprox. 100-150 mg) the fatigue will not be nearly as bad. Wellbutrin is a antidepressant, but its also a mild stimulant.

Here is some more info on what other people had to say about the side effects of prozac.

For the majority of people,Prozac has a mild stimulant-type effect. Some people are sedated by it though,so if that is what is happening to you, then the best time to take it would be an hour or so before going to bed.

It will reduce your energy levels and depress your thyroid, which makes you sleepy - but, for some it will interfere with sleep. If you want to understand how it works, and also some good reasons to get off it as soon as you are able, read up on fluoride, because that is the active ingredient in Prozac. I would venture to say the best time to take it is when you won't be active for a long time, because it affects your reaction speed, strength, vision, judgment, and balance - However, this is something your doctor should be telling you.
