Overcoming our diversity seems to be a problem for some people. If we could achieve this, we could achieve world peace. Under it all, we are all still human.

Zanahade,
The Golden Rule is not the foundation of Christianity. Jesus is the foundation of Christianity. And we get there by faith. And facing off in a debate, though trunkated by this type of format, seems light compared to the message board sites that I've been on.

I agree that religion is mostly about gaining control. And second, it's about keeping that control...that is why religion is constanstly changing there point of view or as they say it's, "evolving"....wait a minute I thought religion doesn't believe in "evolution"...all that faith and stuff....
Getting to the modern era, most people are educated enough to know better so they all feel duped by what was/is being sold to them (christianity in this case) so they have a need to get pay back...which of coarse is a natural human trait and thus started the whole "us vs. them".
Now if everone put all this into perspective (and grow up) we could all get along.
In summary,
"Religion is a big conspiracy. Man made/misconstrued rules to dominate man!"
Really, no one likes to get dominated...do they???

The Xtians spend months acting like jerks and then when people start to push back you are all whining about persecution. Gee, now it is "why so much nastyness?", "how come we can't all just be nice?". After months of being one or cheering on the bigots and fundies, you want what now? You want peace with the non-christians. HAH. I don't believe you!!!
a witch+Then you should be backing down the xtians (who want to burn you) and not accepting their crap any more.

Plain Facts it is all to do with Power and Control, like most governments.
Religion in many ways has a very bad history throughout the ages, same as most government's or rulers all down to keep you in check. Amen?. We are just like a flock of sheep or lambs follow what is easy.

The Bible teaches that the devil wants his children to suffer, and will do whatever it takes to lead us on a path away from Him.
There will always be trials and tribulations for Christians, because we are at spiritual war with the enemy.
And because if what you believe in is true, then when someone is pushing an agenda that goes against God's laws and morality, then we must defend it

This is SAD as you and I have seen throughout the web...an indication of the war between good and bad ; good and evil ; God and satan...it started in heaven between Lucifer and God and will continue till the destruction of this universe with satan ( Rev 20 , 21 ,22 ) , the originator of sin.. for SIN is the transgression of God' law ( I John 3 : 4 ) .. ...So which side am I in ? It depends on how YOU view it , brother...I am a christian but I don't hate non-christians . I am commited to SHARE with them my beliefs as EXACTLY FROM GOD'S WORD / BIBLE . Sometimes answers to non-believers may be confrontational but I believe God wants me to deliver them with tact , kindness ,and with cunningness as of a snake's..with the HOPE that this non-believer will heed the INVITATION of the HOLYSPIRIT and be converted to life eternity... the choice is his ..even when he chooses not to believe , I still will BLESS him because the bible says TO BLESS OUR ENEMIES ( not that we make them ours BUT they decide to be such ) AND NOT TO HATE THEM... this is the attitude that christians should have : to INVITE and NOT to FORCE which is satan's attitude ( Revelation 13 : 5 )...so for we christians , please do not judge for only God alone can judge.. our duty is to fulfil the Gospel Commission ..Matthew 28 : 19 , 20 with love ... May God bless you

Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
It cannot be made any clearer than this.

There doesn't have to be any facing off at all. All that is needed is respect, from both sides.
