God bless you and all young men and women across this nation for volunteering to serve your country and defend our way of life in these troubling and turbulent times. I admire you and those like you. Come home safe, you're always in the prayers of my family

I thought that you had already joined the Air Force. If you backed out because you were scared about going to Iraq, you shouldn't be. All the branches are deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, so there is no way to get out of that. Doing an admin job in the Air Force will not put you out on the front lines, in fact you will be farther away from the front lines than those of us in mechanical, electronics, and general fields. I strongly encourage you to sit back and reconsider why you are wanting to join, and to also reconsider what you want out of a military career.

I had a MISERABLE time with the Navy when I was in the Navy. However, in retrospect, and in the fullness of time, I see just how valuable an experience it was, and what it taught me......self discipline, loyalty, and how reliability is valued and rewarded. And, seeing Japan, Taiwan and Korea was an experience that will enrich my life forever.

I could never see the value of keeping my hair cut (it was the early 70s), keeping my shoes shiny, and conforming to petty regulations that stifled individuality, and had nothing to do with my job, so it was a constant battle...and without exception, I always lost. Funny thing is, now I keep my hair at regulation length, and I take care with my grooming. I just have to maintain an illusion that I have the final say in my life. If you are able to follow regulations without losing self respect, the Navy will be a wonderful experience. And as far as Iraq is concerned, there was only one navy enlisted man taken prisoner in Vietnam.. The navy gives you the greatest margin of safety of all the services.

And, thank you for your service!!

Not to sound like a smart mouth but you should have thought about this BEFORE joining the Navy.

If you go to Iraq will depend on what you do in the Navy. If you are medic assigned to a Marine unit then your chances of going to Iraq are fairly high.

Well first off you will be introduced to a very different world from civilian life, a world where you will first learn to take orders and later to give orders. A world where teamwork is essential to complete big and small missions. You will meet very interesting people from all over the nation and --very important a chance to compare your upbringing, education and skills against a very large group of people that are the same age as you. Like most people you will love the work and its challenges, and your shipmates, but you may have reservation about living with the Navy and putting up with its rigid rules. Your chance to travel all over the USA and the world is priceless. Put up with their living rules and enjoy your experience.

are you scared to go off to iraq?

maybe you shouldn't join the military then.

the question should be, what will you do for the Navy?

there is just too many good things to say about the military, you'd really have to find that out for by yourself. everyone's experience is different, it's what you make out of it.

P.S I thought you joined the Air Force (LOL) a few hours ago

You said you were going to join the Air Force. I think you are looking for attention and are nothing but a chicken.
My opinion is that you are a lying sack of crap. In the past day you have said that you joined the navy, the air force, and that you wanted to be a corrections officer in Illinois.
Keep up the good work with all your lies.

i have 2 family members in the navy and 4 in a.f. as far as i know
about iraq and someone being sent over.... it depends on how long u signed up for but you will have to go on active duity before the end of your ... time is up :) in the navy. I think its a great thing to join the navy as long as you use what they give you. for instance college you can get a great education in the military and by going to school you'll also get paid more the more education you have while in the navy.
all i have to say is good for you....be strong ....and safe!!!!!!

woot for the Navy. You'll get training for what ever field you want to study, they'll pay for college. It's all volunteer, so the risks of you being deployed to Iraq are slim. They may send you to a city/country on a water front. But I agree, talk to your recruiter

you need to ask yourself why you joined, and if its NOT because you have an unquenched thirst for being in the navy, then get out now! you might go to iraq its a strong possibility but whatever happens you may have to face somewhere worse than iraq!
