You can only get so much credit based on your income. After a certain point, you will be refused even if you are faithfully making your payments. Every time you apply for a card, it shows up on your credit report and stays there for 6 months. If you have already applied for another card and you have been refused, you may have reached or surpassed the limit that most lenders are comfortable with. It sounds to me like you are on the slippery slope to bankruptcy. If you are determined to get as much credit as you can, here's what I would suggest:
Choose to apply for store cards where you can get approved immediately and apply for all of them within a 2 or 3 day period. It takes time for your applications to appear in the system so you could conceivably be granted several thousands of dollars of credit from a variety of stores before any of them knows that you have received credit from the others. Also, stores have lower standards for granting credit than most banks or national credit cards.

Do you really want more cards or a higher total credit limit. If you want the later, keep the the cards current and the balances low. The issuers will increase your limits regularly. mine go up at least once a year any I have never asked for a higher limit.

You'd have to be an idiot to want more. You already have $8K in credit card limits, if you have more than $2,500 on them you are already hurting your credit score. If you get more it will start to hurt your credit because you will have too many revolving accounts.
If you don't like your cards, get a better one (MBNA have some good choices), and close your crap ones (the ones with $1,000 limits).
Honestly though, I don't think you have very good credit. If you did, you'd have a higher limit. You will be better off paying these off and building your credit.

YOu don't want more. It will just hurt your credit rating and if you start to actually max them, you will likely bury yourself deep in debt.
Practical advisors suggest you carry ONE good card. Period. A visa or a mastercard. If you want to keep your credit rating, keep it under 30% balance to limit. If you pay as agreed, they will raise your credit limits pretty quickly.
You will not likely accumulate any significant wealth if you accumulate a bunch of credit cards.

Accept all the forms that come in the mail. But please DONT use them all. Then there's all the individual store cards. If you're trying to break some kinda record, go for it. But again, use ONLY ONE, and pay it off each month. That's the smart thing to do.
Use THEIR money for a month!

Why do you want more? If you really want more for a good reason and you think you can handle it, just apply for more.
