Just been wormed? They could still be bothering him. Give him a couple days and see if he continues.

They scratch their backside for the same reason that we do. It feels good. As some of the others mention, your cat is trying to relieve some sort of irritation.
The most likely problem is a blocked anal gland. When we domesticated animals, we took them away from an environment that they had evolved to succeed in. For example, we take grazing animals like horses that are designed to eat a little bit at a time all day, and we stuff them with a big pile of food once or twice a day. In the case of cats and dogs, they have an anal gland that is meant to establish territories and is also useful for locating a mate. It sits right against the top side of the anus. We feed them a rich, fatty diet and actually look for food with less "cereal filler" where they could get some of the fiber that would bulk up their stool and help to keep the anal gland working properly as their stool passes by.
Expressing the anal gland is a simple process, much like expressing a pimple, but far less pleasant. For this reason alone, I would say that it calls for a trip to a groomer, at minimum. However, rich diets can also cause colitis in young animals, which can become much more serious. Colitis causes diarrhea, which you mentioned as a symptom. I would take my kitten to a veterinarian, just in case.

Your kitten has glands in his rectum and they can be plugged. You need to take him back to the Vet. The diarreah could be from the de-worming. Also his dragging his bum( if you watch TV about Preparation H) with diarreah can make the rectum itch. Keep an eye on his diareah if it doesn't seem to get better soon get him back to the Vet...enjoy your kitten...

Good thing she is wormed but have the parasites returned due to flea infestation? That could be one reason. The diarreah could be causing itching too. If it continues see a vet.

HAHAHA!
Last week my cat came in the house, went straight into the carpeted living room, and proceeded to "wipe her a$$" across the floor.
She then turned, sniffed, made a HORRIBLE face at ME (as if I was the one making the smell...) and bolted.
Cats. Gotta love em.

Perhaps it's time to let the bum go?
You could send him to a homeless shelter!
