So I have been dating this guy for about 2 months. I really like him and I think he likes me. I have a 7 year old son who adores him. Well my son starts basketball on the 28th and is very excited. This guy I am dating says that he wants to go to my son's games. He lives about 30 minutes from me and works from 4am to 12pm so the only time I get to see him is Friday night, Sat, and Sun. He tells me to call, and when I do, he rarley answers. Sometimes he doesn't return my call and gives me an excuse that he was just too busy. He tells me that he was taking a nap because of the hours he works. I have told him that I am looking for a relationship. My son's father isn't really in the picture, only when he wants to be, so when my son heard that he wanted to come to the basketball games, he was extatic. I don't want my son to get hurt in the process and I don't want to get attached because he shows alot of interest in my son. Do you think that he is serious, or just stringing me along?

Sounds like he's doing a little of both. Take care of your son's feelings first. I know it must be difficult to a) shield a child from influences that may or may not be around long-term; b) have a former spoouse that isn't 100% involved; c) try and have a social life of your own. It might be time for the man in question to put up or shut up, not just come around when it suits him...

I have a hard time wondering why you involved your son in your dating life so soon, but at the same time I have never been in that situation nor will be anytime soon.

That being said it sounds like your man might already have a woman. Thirty minutes away is a pretty good distance to have one on the side if you know what I mean. Time to make sure your man is really single.

I do not want to be too blunt, but if he was truly interested he would be returning calls, making calls, and making time to see you and your son. From my experience when a guy is really interested he bends over backwards for you no matter how busy their lives are........ try not to get attached and do not stop seeking that someone special that deserves you and your son in his life
