of their menfolk that they are pieces of meat who deserve to be raped if they do not?
This is what Australia's senior Muslim cleric had to say on the subject:
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20653032-601,00.html
These comments have just received the endorsement of the mufti's employer, the Lebanese Muslim Association, who refused to sack him for the comments. By way of background, several youths of Lebanese background received heavy prison sentences some time back for the organised gang rape of Australian girls.
It's time to liberate yourselves, Muslim women, and take yourselves out of the dark ages, and throw off the head to foot outfits, and campaign for an end to polygamy, while you are about it. Good luck.

Perhaps, but who's going to be brave enough to go first?
Many Muslim women leave oppressive countries, wait until they're grown to be themselves, etc., on an individual basis. A true revolution will have to come from women en masse. And a lot of women will be hurt when that happens, just as our women in America were during the struggle for universal adult suffrage.
I'd highly recommend that everyone here read a sad and world-changing book: "The Caged Virgin" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She asks where the Muslim Voltaire is. She may be that person, if she's allowed to live long enough.
PS--Vash, I have no problem with the scarf myself. As I've noted here, I wear "hijab" when my highlights go green in the pool! It's head-to-toe covering and everything symbolized by it, which is the lesser status and invisibility of women and the idea that women are mens' property.

I think the cleric is an idiot and I think you are too! As a Muslim woman I choose not to wear a hijab, as it is only required during prayer and upon entering the mosque(man are required to cover their heads as well). The issues that a lot of the eastern countries face have nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with Ignorance. The Qu'ran is used as an excuse to mistreat women, when in reality it says in the Qu'ran that it is a sin and that women should be treated and view as equal. Polygamy by the way is not supported either. It was used by Prophet Muhammad for the women who needed male protection after the death of their Fathers, brothers or Husbands. He didn't have sexual relations with them. Just his first wife, who he married for Love.

Keyser Söze,
Check out this and see if you can figure this woman out. She talks about what your subject is, it just so happens. I found this vid just minutes ago. I think it's right along the lines of what you are talking about. It's called, "Why I wear the Veil."

She sounds like a total whack job.

Some Muslim women who have been taught that can be scared because that is their religion and that's what it tells them too. Plus, they can have major consequences from their family. Many women also choose to follow the religion and they do not feel the need to be liberated because they believe they are followiing God.

if you are really a fearing God person, why don't you complain about those women who wear bikini of desire clothes instead? at least muslim women respect God in this life and time.
and who you calling "get out of the dark ages" ? you are the one who is living in the dark. we worship one God and we obey our lord. God has put light inside our heart, and our Hijab (scarf) is our right, no one can take it away from me. leave us alone.

No. They are simply being modest women. I'm sick and tired of people making fun of them just because they choose to wear a scarf on their head! Get a life.
