this IS the simplest, most right way to make it. Before anything take your cocktail glass, fill it with ice and add water to top and let it sit there to chill while you prepare the drink. Get your shaker, pour ice in it, put 2 and a half ounces of of gin (or vodka if they ask for a vodka martini), one half ounce of dry vermouth, and a dash of olive juice. You then stir it a couple of times. Pour out the ice water you have sitting there chilling your cocktail glass. Get your strainer and pour it in your chilled cocktail glass.. Its a 3 oz reciple that fits perfectly and comfortably in a cocktail glass, simple and easy. by the way, REAL dirty martini's dont have the actual olives in them though, just the olive juice. (unless of course they request for both). Have fun with it

A dirty martini, as I'm sure the rest of those who answered this will tell you, is a regular martini with olive juice in it. Once you've thrown your vodka or gin into a shaker with some ice, pour green olive juice in with it, shake it and pour it in a chilled martini glass that has been pre-misted with vermouth.
