Why does everyone automatically answer "no"?

If a recipe calls for a lot of sugar as well as evaporated milk, then condensed milk might work as a substitute. You simply substitute for the sugar as well as the milk. For every 14 oz can consider about 7 oz of it to be evaporated milk and 7 oz to be sugar. If the amount of sugar you will get using this ratio works out to being that called for in the recipe or less, then you can use the condensed milk as a substitute.

Replacement For Sweetened Condensed Milk

No, condensed milk cannot be used as a substitute for evaporated milk.
Evaporated milk has had most of the water removed. If you run out of regular milk, just add equal parts evap. milk and water. If you plan on using it for cereal or drinking, make sure it is VERY cold, otherwise it tastes a little different.
Condensed milk is milk and sugar cooked together. It is usually used in candy and cookie recipes.

No. Condensed milk is milk that just about all the water is taken out and sugar is added, so it is very thick and sweet. It is used in cooking/baking desserts, candy, etc.
Evaporated milk is milk that about 60% percent of the water is removed and no sugar is added. It can be used in cooking/baking instead of regular milk (and costs less). Just add equal amounts of evap milk and water to get the total amount called for in a recipe.

Condensed milk is sweetened. It is thick and syrupy. Evaporated milk is plain milk with some of the water removed.

I also replaced it in a pumpkin pie-accidentally and it turned out really well.

If the recipe is super important and you don't have a time or ingredients to do twice you should probably skip substituting, but if you can play around with it go ahead and experiment.
