The moment you feel sleepy, pull over and get some sleep. Don't risk going out on the road when you're not fully awake. Once you've gotten the rest you need, things that can help you stay alert are things with lots of caffeine (like Red Bull, coffee, coke, etc.). Make sure it's not too hot or stuffy in the car - maybe open a window to let some fresh air in. Having someone to talk to (not on the phone but as a passenger) also helps.

If I'm with someone, I have them pinch me or slap me lightly. If I'm by myself, I pinch and slap myself. Your best bet would be to pull over for a few minutes and take a power nap, or just get a motel for the night. You could also stop at a gas station and get something to eat. Eating keeps me awake. Get something that takes a long time to eat, like a bag of candy that you can eat one piece at a time. Maybe drink some soda or coffee. If at all possible though, just don't drive while you're tired. That's an easy way to get yourself (or someone else) killed.

The best way that i have found to stay asleep while driving is to roll down your window and turn your music up. Another way is if you dont want to roll your window down you can turn your air conditioner on. The cold always made me stay awake and the music usually gave me something to listen to an did't make me tired.
