hey iam in the exact suituation as u! but i have already got married but that was two years ago and we are still waiting for the visa! its quite annoying. but if you are in love and you are definatly sure about him then its over really quickly the whole 'married for visa' thing. no one really says it to you.

It depends on where he is from and what kind of visa it is. He should have some sort of visa or work permit if he is in the country already. Ideally he should be applying for a green card. It can be difficult, expensive, and frustrating to go through this process, but it has to be done properly. There are different lengths of time involved depending on the particular components of his application. For instance, the waiting time for a green card after all the correct paperwork is in is quicker if you have a direct relative sponsoring you, otherwise you can be put on a waiting list since a set number of people are accepted from each country. If he is having many difficulties with this process, he may consider consulting with an immigration attorney. Whatever the specifics of his case, if everything is done properly, there is not much that can be done to speed up the whole process.

Don't mean to be the bringer of bad news, but I was in the exact same situation a couple of years ago... My boyfriend was Lebanese, and we were going to get married as soon as he got his visa sorted so he could come over here.
Unfortunately, it never happened and that was the end of our relationship, which was a great shame because we were really in love. Don't worry what people say about the passport thing either, they all said it to me, but you know yourself if it's real love or not.

People always say its for a visa, had a similar situation and even my close friends said that. Nasty but one of the things you must think about... I couldn't stop thinking about it ... just one of those doubt you can have!! Get married when you are ready to, don't let comments from people that don't matter care about you interfere with what will make you happen.
The only people whose opinion you should listen to is your mother, father and god if you swing that way. That was the best advice that I was given.
Good Luck and enjoy your engagement xx

Surely if you loved him and he didn't get his visa you would marry him and go live in his country? Both of you should have no problems with this as then he can't be accused of marrying you for his British passport.
I always have an issue with people that moan about visas due to marriage as they want their loved one to live in the land of the free but they won't go and live in their country where it's not so easy.

I applied for a fiancee visa and paid far too much for it but I am sure I found out if I got it within two months of applying. Maybe it depends where you are coming from. Maybe he should call the embassy to which he applied to find out more information. I think 18 months is a little too long...are you sure he did apply?

I would say if you really want to get married, then it shouldn't matter if people think you are doing it for a visa. If they think that then they obviously don't know you very well. As far as the visa time, I have no clue.

Why don't he and you go to the Immigration Bureau and ask them the for the answer. Are you sure your boyfriend has told you everything about his immigration status?

Did you file for I129F? If this is what you filed for, than you can check status on line with your receipt number. Go to www.uscis.gov. If you need further help contact your local US Congressperson for your district, they have staff trained to help out with this. It should not take this long.
