It depends where you are. Generally in North America, the US and Canada it is done in large cities and no one thinks anything of it . In small town Ontario it would probably considered as rude. People like to sit down and have a chat, eat, and greet each other.
In many other countries it is the norm. In some European countries it is very rude.

Don't know if it's impolite or not but I do it constantly not because I enjoy it but because I'm always on the move and the only time I really have to put something in my stomach is when I am on the move except of course when I get home then I'll have a normal dinner.

When my grandmother was young eating in the street was regarded as impolite, and so was smoking, if you were female. Times have changed, though!

I agree with Steph, although I've done it myself. Also hate people slurping and shovelling food int their faces on trains, then leaving their glorious mess behind. And it is almost a joke watching people eat hot chips, pushing them from one side of their face to the other while expelling the heat like a fish opening and closing their mouths! As for the ones who swill drinks all around their cheeks, giving every tooth a bath first, then gulp it all down, well you get how I feel! Good question!!!

I don't really think so. If it's something that you're capable of eating while walking, I don't see how that could be impolite.
