Many people have told me it's tiny organisms living water, and soil, others have said they are tiny plants like moss that float around in the water, and supply whales with food. But what should I believe? WHAT IS PLANKTON???

A diverse group of minute animals (zooplankton) and plants (phytoplankton) that freely drift in the water.Minute floating forms of microscopic plants and animals in water which cannot get about to any extent under their own power. They form the important beginnings of food chains for larger animals.

Planktons are microscopic organisms, which inhabits in water.Planktons are usually single cell organisms but sometimes multicellular.They are the pioneers for aquatic plants as they help in raising soil level under water and increase organic matter in water.Thus they help in making hydrosphere.

plankton is living organisms in mostly water. if it is a plant we call it phytoplankton if it is animal we call it zooplankton
