I would say no. You are held accountable for your actions if you know right from wrong. This is why a child, or a menatlly handicapped person is not resposnible for some of their actions.

Why do you limit that question to Mormons?

It *is* an interesting question to ask. I'd have to ask the question: "From who's point of view is the sin judged?"

God says that the reward for faith in Him is salvation and eternal life. He also says that rejecting Him has it's own penalties.

You can easily argue that you shouldn't be held accountable for the penalty if you are in a different belief system ("religion"). But, the judge of that is still God. When you're standing there, you've either ACCEPTED or REJECTED. I sincerely doubt there's a middle ground to that question. And I really doubt that your years of faithful service to a false god will carry much weight in your defense.

So, yeah, you will probably be held accountable before God.

Mosiah 3:11
11 For behold, and also his blood atoneth for the sins of those who have fallen by the transgression of Adam, who have died not knowing the will of God concerning them, or who have ignorantly sinned.

D&C 46:15
15 according as the Lord will, suiting his mercies according to the conditions of the children of men.

God may not hold you accountable, but life will. If you smoke and you don't know it is wrong, you will still get cancer.

Ignorance of sin is also a sin. But God almighty is gracious and Merciful. He gives you time to get knowledge from your childhood to your death so you can learn what is right and what is wrong.

If you do wrong even when you know it is wrong is a real sin and is not going to be mercied. But if you do it by mistake may be mercied by the God the merciful.

If you truly do not know it is a sin, then probly not...but you can't be "saved" in ignorance either. Every person will have the chance to either accept or reject the gospel at some point, whether in this life or the next. That is why we perform saving ordinances for the dead. When your chance to accept it though is in the eyes of God, he is the one who ultimately knows and judges of course.

Commiting a sin requires that you know, or are capable of knowing, that what you are doing is wrong. Therefore, you cannot sin without knowing about it somehow or at some point.

As a recent convert the question you should be asking yourself is "what is sin". Sin is Self-Inflicted Nonsense. The blood of Jesus Christ frees us from sin and thus sets us free.

So as a christian your job is to do everything by faith. Do not focus your new energy on sin, or you make the blood of Jesus Christ of non effect. Focus on the plan of salvation and ultimate exhaltation to the celestial kingdom.

The prophet Joseph Smith seldom focussed on sin... (He married his own adopted daughter). Like most men of the Bible he focussed on plan and purpose.. not basic human desires. So please don't look at Mormonism as what you can not do... Salvation frees you...

Be free.

actually no, if you have the knowledge of the sin i would hope that wouldn't otherwise do it, God looks into your heart if you truly and honestly didn't know, it's okay but once you get that knowledge well, yeah you know better and you are accountable.

No, you are not held accountable for what you don't know. You should, however, still repent and not do it again after you have discovered that what you have done was wrong.

It's my understanding that God only holds us responsible for what we know.

Of course that doesn't mean we should be afraid to know more, we also believe that blessings are linked with every act of obedience to God's teachings.
