People tend to misunderstand the basic fact that not all Christians are Fundamentalists. As an Episcopalian, I really have very little in common theologically with the likes of Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, but many people think that right-wing Fundamentalists speak for all of us, and nothing could be farther from the truth.

I agree with Courtney! I also believe there is a huge difference between being religious and being a true believer! Going to church on Sunday and living like the devil thru the week is NOT being a Christian. Todays media sees a lot of people like that and lumps everyone who professes Christianity into that mold. There are however many of us who attempt to take the Bible at face value - believe it and live as close to that as possible!! I wish somehow that message would get across to the people on Yahoo Q&A who are constantly bashing Christians! I believe if they would stop all the hateful bashing, and take a closer look at what it means to be a true Believer they would begin to see maybe we are not so stupid after all!!

I actually aggree that some people do think we're perfect or they think we're stupid."I think some people also think we are crazy . At my church worship gets a little intense but that is a GOOD thing . It's good that we worship God and love him with passion and zeal. The fact is some people will think we are crazy stupid or perfect. No matter what people think though we have to hold strong to what God tells us . 2 thessalonians 2:15 sais Stand firm and hold on to the teachings we have passed on to you! Do not worry about what people think . Stand Firm !

I like abtina's answer above.
What people misunderstand the most about me is just about everything. I am Catholic.
We do not worship Mary, we follow the bible and call her blessed.
Necromancy is a sin.
The Pope is just a man.
Statues are hunks of wood and plaster and are only worshipped in Hollywood movies. The prayer does not stop at the statue or it is a sin.
There is not one non-Catholic Christian web site on the internet that teaches the truth about the Catholic
Church. Some are so full of misrepresentations and lies, they are evil. And even some so called Catholic web sites are dissenting.

Non-believers tend to think that Christians blindly follow a Way without understanding it, though this is absolutely unfounded. no one debates the way more than the Christians themselves, even from the time the scriptures were being drafted and canonized, and every day of every week since then.
Non-believers tend to think Christians hold themselves as "better than" others because of our choice to follow Christ. This is also generally false, as the Christian scripture holds us all (believer and unbeliever alike) as imperfect and even the most elect of us all to be subject to deception if we are not very careful.
The real difference between the believer and the unbeliever is our understanding of "the final destination" and who we believe will guide us there. Those differences of course lead to many differences in the way we perceive and and attempt to solve issues of life and society.

David

What is the importance of their thinking or misunderstanding?
The fact that Christianity exists gloriously for more than 2000 years is the greatest proof about its divine origin.
Yes, the important thing is to always remain obedient to the One True God and to cinduct a decent life according to His teachings.

I think the number one thing people misunderstand is that not all Christians are as hypocritical as the media makes us out to be. Some of us are truly genuine Christians, who all we want to do is share God's love with those around us and be a shining light.

I think that many think we are weak so we turn to God. I also think that many think Christians are not loving non believers and throw religion down throats. They think we are not intelligent. I think this question would be for the ones who say theses things.
Thank you for asking. All in all, it doesnt mattter for we love them anyways, and pray for them and what God thinks is the most important. God Bless
