Listen, I'm 26 years retired Air Force and our involvment right now is in ground wards, protecting turf. As an admin troop, your chances of going to Iraq/Afghan are fairly slim. Both of my sons are in the AF and only one has deployed a couple of times to the middle east, but not to Iraq/Afghan.
Once you complete basic/tech school and get into the AF and see how things work, you'll understand things in a different light. Your are going to be a support troop and the chances of going over there are pretty slim. It's just not an Air Force gig right now. During Dessert storm, we had our jets flying, but out support personnel was located in places like Incirlik Turkey and aeras where we launched from. For now, concentrate on your tasks at and, don't get wrapped up in rumors (which will fly everywhere durig basic/tech training). Focus on what your supposed to be doing, and learn it well. Good luck and welcome to the Air Force family.

Alright, this is something I know something about because I joined the airforce just over 1 year ago and guess where I am right now, you guessed it Iraq. For starters I can garenttee that if you have something majorly wrong with you that isn't quiet bad enough for you to not get into the military but it's close then you probably wont deploy at all, that aside I can GARENTEE that you will deploy, you could go to kuwait, qatar, kirkik, balad, iraq. I believe that there are a couple of iraq air bases. they are in turn only 4 month deployyments, rather than everywhere else which is on 6 month deployments. Most deployment managers do allow you to request destinations. I will say that ya it sucks being over here, but the location is good, there are beautiful palaces that we have taken over and go look at, the weather is nice, and that's not the cases for most of the other locations you can deploy to, but you will deploy, you probably have a less likely chance coming to iraq than to any other deployment location but ther is always a chance. hope this helps.

First off, there is NO GUARANTEE you will go to the Middle East. I was in the Air Force for six years in a career field that deployed on a regular basis and I DID NOT DEPLOY, not to any location, even when I volunteered. I switched jobs and now go to Iraq once a month or so because I am a flyer. I tell you that to make you realize that your career field is the biggest factor in when and where you will deploy. It will also impact where you will get stationed. Obviously with the current situation in the world, your odds of going to the Middle East are higher if you do deploy. Don't listen to anyone that tells you that you are guaranteed to deploy because they are wrong. When you get to your first unit, someone will explain the deployment process from beginning to end. If they don't, ask questions.
Now that being said, if you have to deploy, usually the Air Force is the place to be. Obviously this is my opinion. You will probably not be patrolling the streets of Baghdad as an Air Force admin troop. You may deploy to a location that supports the Middle East without ever stepping foot in Iraq. It all depends on your job and your unit. If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a message and I will try to answer them honestly for you.
As a side note, you will learn that misinformation is spread throughout the military as much as it is in High School. If I had a dollar for every time I have heard, "Rumor has it..." and the rumor is totally wrong. If you have doubts, ask someone else or go up your chain of command. The old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" stands true in the Air Force. Also, watch your sources, even on here (Yahoo), as you will hear from cousins, wives, uncles, etc. that all think they know what is going on in the Air Force, even if their "connection" has nothing to do with the Air Force.
EDIT: I just looked at the questions this guy has asked in the past. Apparantly he is so bored with his life that he posts questions like this one with no intention of being in the military. I hope you do join one day and realize the life you like to joke about.

Being admin, your chances are considerably lower that other people in critical support fields. Even if you do get deployed you are more likely to end up on a base that is very rarely attacked. I am in a maintenance job and so I will get deployed closer to the action than you would be. Most Admin guys don't have anything to worry about.

If you join the Navy you probably won't be sent to Iraq there are almost no Navy men out there right now (except for maybe the SEALS). But the Navy is a lot harder to get into than the other branches. You have to score higher on your ASVAB and have a very clean record. If you join the airforce have fun in the middle east!

Dude I hope I didnt scare you out of the AF truth is in the military you will deploy. This is how the AF cycle works.
Usually you will deploy for 4 months (they are about to change it to 6).
After you come home you will not deploy again for 15 months.
For the most part we do not deploy to areas that are to bad. We fly aircraft and they need to be a in a safe place to get troops in and out.
In 04 I deployed to Kyrgyzstan and now I am about to go to Kuwait where I wont even be sleeping in a tent. I will be sleeping in a trailer. When it comes to deployments AF basically has it made.
Dont worry about deployments they will come and go through out your career. You just have to accept it and enjoy the fact you are doing a real mission.

I'm sure you can volunteer for Iraq, if that's what you have your heart set on. Ok, I see... What other countries might we be sending thousands of our troops to in the next 4-5 years? If you don't really want to go to war, then don't join. Then again, you might score very high on some part of the ASVAB tests. In which case, perhaps they give you posts away from the fire and blood?

1) If you have to ask this question you joined for the wrong reasons.
2) Nobody can tell you the answer to this question, it all depends on the unit you go into. Contrary to popular belief not everybody in the service goes to Iraq or Afghanistan!

if you join, you should join wanting to go fight in Iraq. Straight up. Be proud to serve your country.
As far as Admin, if you like working on monotonous stuff, looking at papers, filing, data entry, over and over again, day after day, night after night, year after year, go for it.

Better than they used to be.. but you wouldn't be there NEARLY as long as the Army or Marines. 6 months TOPS. Army and Marines usually are there for 9 to 24 months.
