nope but you will save memory if you do ( if you bought an update then do not uninstall )

the new one will overwrite the operating system but not the event logs and other record keeping functions - so as i said

No you do not. In a lot of cases... the installing program will remove the older version.

I am going to be updating my Norton this weekend by downloading it from their site.
