the first thing the pope did was to reject the rule that excommunicates pedophille priests? Does this mean that the pope got his jollies off of kids, and wants to protect his own kind?

In 2002, sounding almost Tom DeLayish, Ratzinger told the Catholic News Service that he thought that the pedophile priest scandal was being driven by a media set on making the Catholic Church look bad:

"I am personally convinced that the constant presence in the press of the sins of Catholic priests, especially in the United States, is a planned campaign, as the percentage of these offences among priests is not higher than in other categories, and perhaps it is even lower.

"In the United States, there is constant news on this topic, but less than 1% of priests are guilty of acts of this type. The constant presence of these news items does not correspond to the objectivity of the information nor to the statistical objectivity of the facts.

"Therefore, one comes to the conclusion that it is intentional, manipulated, that there is a desire to discredit the Church. It is a logical and well-founded conclusion."

Probably, but he'll just chalk it up to the fact that priests are God's children too and they must be forgiven and not cast down on the rocks or that would be judgmental, or some other philosophical crap like that!!! But that's just me.

No, because your statement is not true. This pope has excommunicated pedophile priests both in his current role and his previous role as defender of the faith as a cardinal.

Additionally, your last sentence would be a huge leap even if the first sentence is true. It is the same type of asinine thinking that goes on in D.C., "If you are against the war and Bush policy, you want to protect terrorists."

Yes, it does, at first blush, seem interesting.

I'm wondering if it was done in order to put a clearer rule/law into place or not.

I seriously doubt that it implies anything at all about the Pope and whatever "jollies" he may or may not have.

It probably has more to do with an effort to cure and heal a problem within the Catholic Church.

It means they protect and cover up or try to for each other, if not it would make the whole "establishment" look bad.

He says it's about forgiveness, but when the last pope was shot, I see that guy went to prison.

I hope it's just to protect his own. It would be a sad day for all catholics if it was for any other reason.

Where did you hear that? Last I heard, he was trying to get gay priests out of the priesthood.

You're getting warm. Don't we all blindly protect our own?
