It is taught and believed by some that the Virgin Mary is the "Mother of God". You may ask how can this be. One of the early church councils had proclaimed this to be a doctrine of faith to be believe by all the church. I wrestle with this question for many years since I am not Roman Catholic. In oder to come to an understanding I first had to recognize that Mary gave birth to a child who is the very Son of God (Divine) and also was very much human. So Jesus Christ is both God and man and in this way Mary is the "Mother of God". By the way I am a Episcolpaian.

Yes I do, and I applaud the path you took to come to your conclusions. "Understanding" doesn't mean having cold hard facts.

No. The Bible at Ps.83:18 says that Jehovah is the Most High, right? When announcing Jesus' birth to Mary, the angel Gabriel told her, at Luke 1:32 that she would give birth to the SON of the Most High. Isn't that different from saying that she would give birth to the Most High? In spite of such clarity , some people still don't get it because their minds have been influenced by the trinity doctrine, which goes contrary to what the Bible really says.

So, Mary is not the Mother of God. She is the mother of the SON of God.

The text actually states "until she had given birth to her firstborn son." There are two things you need to realize about the language used here. First off, the word "until" simply means "up until that time." It does not mean that things changed after that point and that Mary and Joseph had relations. It simply means there were no relations before that point. The second is the Protestant misinterpretation of the phrase "firstborn son." In Biblical times, this was PURELY a legal term. It was never an indication that there were other children after Jesus. Also, Mary states herself that she is "the handmaid of the Lord." (See Luke 1:38) This is indicative that she was a temple virgin. This was rare for Jewish girls, but still acceptable. As a temple virgin, Mary would have been completely consecrated to the Lord, as indicated by her own statement. Yes, she was betrothed to Joseph at the point that Jesus was conceived within her womb by the power of the Holy Spirit, but Joseph was much older than she was, most likely at least twice her age at the time, and most likely, also, a widower. His pledge would have been to respect her vows of virginity and consecration to the Lord, which is why he would have been chosen to be her spouse. Many Protestants also point to the Bible saying that Christ had brothers and sisters. Again, this is a confusion of language. While Joseph may well have had several step-siblings from Joseph's first marriage, the word "brother" or "sister" simply meant "close relative" at this period of time. In fact, we still use the term today, when we call close friends or cousins our "brothers" or "sisters" or when we refer to other Christians as our "brothers" and "sisters" in Christ.

Mary was the mother of God in the human form witch would be Jesus. So shes the mother of Jesus and although she was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus she was not for the other children she had. (she was married to Joseph) So why the catholics pray to the virgin Mary is crazy if you ask me!

No, because the Bible says that Jesus has always existed with the Father. Mary was an extraordinary woman, but all she did was have the human form of God who was already in pre-existence. Besides, God is eternal, therefore how can he have a mother?

As a christian (not a catholic) I believe that Mary is Jesus's mother and was a virgin when she had Jesus. And that Joseph is the father. And I do not believe that Mary is someone to be worship.

Not in the initial sense. God always was, before there even was this earth. So in that sense no. But in the sense that she gave birth to Jesus and that Jesus is God yes. I guess we'll never really understand how that happened but that is for us to take by faith.
See Hebrews 11:6

Great question. I will give you my two cents which is about what it's worth. In my walk with Jesus I put as much weight on my view of Mary as Jesus did. Mary was special and not just your run of the mill girl. She knew GOD in the flesh in ways we will never understand (Chainging dirty drawers and learning to walk and such)And even on the Cross Jesus rememberd to look after her. Now to understand that she is an awesome person is great and I personally can't wait to speak with her in Heaven GOD willing. But to put any more weight on her then the woman who gave birth to Jesus could be tradgic to someone's salvation if they looked to her for forgivness and such. If someone sins against us we can forgive them and GOD will also forgive them for us. THAT IS AWEOSME! But Mary can only forgive sins against her as far as I can tell. We do not need anyone between us and Jesus. All we need is Jesus between us and eternity.
May GOD richly bless you

Yes' by all means- Mary was the mother of Jesus, a virgin that conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and gave birth to our Saviour Jesus Christ. But that is as far as it goes! Mary has absolutely NO POWER IN HEAVEN, as the Catholics would have you believe. You DO NOT pray to her or through her, nor to or through any saints. You are to pray to God the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus said that 'no man comes to the Father, but by me'. In His name, and only in His name do we pray to God the Father. I am a full-gospel Pentecostal believer.

ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE while Mary was the mother of Jesus by artificial insemination by Holy Spirit she is not nor has ever been the mother of God as Jesus said I am the SON OF GOD not God himself!!! Luke 1:26-38 and Luke 3 :23-38 the Genealogy. so whose word do you take that of Jesus and his Father and the Bible or some man made tradition as for me I always trust in the Bible Gorbalizer

Mary was the mother of Jesus, a flesh and blood person who is God's son.
God is spirit and wasn't born of Mary or anyone. He was always in existence.
