My fiancee's got the day off and wants to cook something nice but not too complicated for two ... any suggestions?

I guess I should add, that he has as much time as he needs tomorrow and is getting pretty good at cooking pretty much anything (but too fancy recipes scare him off), I work all day and he wants to spoil me with a nice meal, hence him asking me what I would like. There's nothing really that I don't like, or am allergic to, which makes it hard ... anyway, thanks guys!

Steak Sandwich

1 large strip, round, or shell sirloin steak, weighing between 12 ounces and 1 pound

1/2 t. coarsely ground black pepper

Salt to taste

2-3 T. oil

2 T. chopped onion

4 oz. crimini mushrooms, cleaned and chopped

1/2 t. thyme

1 loaf French or Italian bread, or 1 Vienna loaf

3-4 T. prepared mustard

Trim any excess fat from the steak. Sprinkle both sides with pepper and salt, then brush with a tablespoon of the oil. Heat a cast-iron or nonstick pan and sear the steak about 2 minutes on each side. Remove from the pan. Cook the onion for 2 minutes in the remaining oil, then add the chopped mushrooms, sprinkling them with the thyme and a little salt. Cook, stirring, until they have softened. If the mixture dries out, add a tablespoon or so of water.

Cut a large piece of bread about 1 inch longer than the steak. (If you're using a Vienna loaf, you may not need to cut it at all.) Slice it lengthwise through the middle, leaving an uncut edge as a hinge. Spread both cut sides of the bread liberally with mustard. Now place the steak on the bottom half and scatter the mushroom mixture on top. Fold the top half of the bread down. Wrap the sandwich in two layers of plastic wrap. Take a long piece of string and tie the sandwich up tightly as if it were a parcel, knotting the string in several places. Put the sandwich on a plate and place another plate on top of it. Now weight it down with either cans of food or a bowl filled with water. Leave it for 8 hours or overnight in the refrigerator or other cold place. When you rescue it from the weights, it will be firm and flat. For serving, unwrap it and slice it on the diagonal so you have several strips, each about 3/4 to 1 inch wide. Arrange these on a platter with a bowl of relish or chutney to accompany them
enjoy

Panang chicken. It is Thai and spicy, which is sexy IMHO. Tastes great and it's easy. The most exotic ingredients are Panang curry, fish sauce and coconut milk which you can buy on the Oriental row of your better supermarkets. You also need a little oil and of course chicken. You can also do panang with beef or shrimp, even tofu.

Fry up the panang curry for a few minutes in a little oil, Add some sugar and the fish oil and coconut milk. Heat and whisk until the lumps are gone. Throw in the thinly sliced raw chicken. Simmer twenty minutes while you make rice. Basmati is best. Serve it up and stand back. Your lover will probably want to thank you in a most profound way.

I'm sure that your guy could broil 2 steaks, bake 2 potatoes and have a nice tossed salad with no complications. For dessert he could buy an angel food cake, cut it in half all the way around then put a filling of 1 tub of cool whip mixed with 1 small box of dry instant vanilla pudding and 1 -15oz. can of crushed pineapple in its juice ,mix the 3 ingredients together, and spread between the cake layers. Try it its delicious.

Smoked salmon and brown bread to start - that doesn't need any real preparation! - Or ciabatta with flavoured olive oil dips.
Baked rainbow trout - put fish in baking dish add a little milk and sprinkle with almonds and a pinch of salt - bake for 12-20 minutes at medium heat. Serve with boiled new potatoes and fresh peas.
Strawberries and cream for dessert.

I've made this meal for my boyfriend and it's really nice but not too complex either.
You wouldn't want to feel too guilty if he had to slave too hard would you?

Toss a bag of frozen meatballs in the slow cooker add a jar or two of spaghetti sauce and place on low tonight. All you have to do tomorrow is cook some spaghetti noodles and eat.

get two chicken breasts, cut a hole in one side and put two lemon slices in each. Crush green peppercorn on top. Pan-fry them on a little olive oil until brown then take them out and put 200 ml creme fraiche, lemon juice, lemon zest , a tablespoon of honey and some salt in. Mix well, put the breasts back and cook them for about 15 minutes until tender. Serve with boiled puds and broccoli. My 12 year-old cooks it on her own, so it is easy. An yammy!

Goulash (chicken or beef, stewed in paprika, green peppers and a bit of chilli and crream if wanted, easy and yummy)
Passoule (smoked bacon, white beans and chilli stew, lasts ages, tasts superb, makes you fart like a trooper, easy to make)
Jali Jali ( I made this up., sounds exotic though)
Umgowah ( this is what tarzan used to say to cheetah)
or my fave, roast beef. Its a right b'stard to get it just right, mainly because quality beef is difficult to come by. So you might end up eating cardboad beef for a good many hours slavery.

Oh if you're not in the mood for stodge, smoked eel/ salmon, tiny bits of goats cheese and spinach souffle is yummy too. Mmm tummy time. Its quite quick too. Quack

Honestly I dont understand these questions, You all want to go for something posh. There have been many questions like this before. Why not just go for a simple meal which is down to earth, bangers and mash, a simple curry, anything that doesnt take time and gives you both more time together.
