........... How do you cure it?
I love my career! I've finally found my nitch..... but working 6 to 7 days a week 8am to 10pm+/- for the last two and a half years has put me into the burnout phase. I never thought that It would happen to me, and I would love to get back on track. I am so overwelmed and behind but everytime I try to get through the stacks of paperwork, I can't concentrate or focus. Any good suggestions would be greatly apreciated!

Actually I am an independant contractor. I am a Real Estate Agent and work these many hours because the work load calls for it.

I would say to make a list and do specific things to knock them off the list. You will feel a sense of completion and accomplishment by crossing off things from your list. However, making such a list takes time, and it doesn't sound like you have any. You probably need to find another company to work for... one where you can have a life and a fulfilling career.

Get away from that company!

I was in a similar situation, but over time my dream job became a nightmare because I had too much on my plate and was working very long hours like you were. In my case, I had multiple bosses assigning me projects and while I thought they were aware of my workload, evidently they weren't, and either way I wanted to come through for them. There was just no way to keep up, and before long it began to ruin my health, so I quit. One of the smartest things I ever did.

You can only expect to be productive for 8 or so hours a day, studies have shown this. No wonder you can't concentrate. If this job won't allow you to keep such hours, then you might jeopardize your health too. Either talk to your boss and have this addressed internally, or find another company in the same line of work if you can, but whatever you do, this can't continue.

Oh my! What kind of career demands you to work those many hours????? If I were you, I would decide if it really was worth it. You have to put your priorities straight. What's more important.. working yourself to death or your health? There's nothing wrong with taking a little time off to rejuvenate yourself.. that's why we have vacations. I really think you need to take one. Don't worry about the paperwork or anything. You just need to relax. You DESERVE to take time off of work, and don't feel guilty for doing so! You worked hard for it, and you NEED it! Take at least 2 weeks off, and spend time with your family, friends, travel, do whatever you want! Have fun doing it too! When you get back to work, you'll feel refreshed, and you'll be so happy you did that! You're missing out on so much by working those many hours. Sure, work pays the bills and puts food on the table, but when you're burnt out and can't focus, you can't do your job to your full potential. That's why it's super important to have "me" time. So take a vacation, relax, and have fun!

If you look closely at your question, I think you'll find the answer within it. You're not a human being, you're a "human doing," AKA, workcoholic. No one is hardwired to work this many hours for such a long stretch of time. It's simple insane and underneath it is a fear of failure or inadequacy and your defense mechanism is work, work, and more work.

Like the song says, "You've got to stop, and smell the roses." And if you find that you can't stop driving yourself like a machine, I would definitely talk to someone about it. Good luck.

Apply for the same job at another company. Two and a half years of experience should make it easy for you to move to another company.
