According to many, God is infinitely powerful. God can make the entire cosmos in the blink of an eye. God can control everything down to the tiniest sub-atomic particle.
So if God is so powerful why does he demand humans to worship? It would be like a human demanding that ants worship us.

Why would an all powerful being care if we thanked him or not?

In theological language, we are said to be the children of God. How would you feel if you had children who never thanked you for anything? Imagine giving them a home, food, clothing, shelter, money and a fine education, only to have them completely take you for granted, or even openly mock your generosity. Wouldn't that be both hurtful and irritating? God has given us our very life, and a magnificent planet upon which to live it. For that, I feel that thanks and praise are due.

Scripture teaches against thanklessness, and aside from that, I believe that it's important to give thanks where thanks are due.

Inside each of us is the innate need to worship. Some worship power, wealth, fame, music, relationships, work, feelings, logic, themselves, God or gods etc. Everyone worships something or someone. God is the only one who is eternal. All other things pass away. Because of our need to worship and because we are finite in nature, God gave us worship as a gift to keep us from being led astray by other things that pass away. He wanted our hearts and minds fixed on eternal things. That is why He said "lay up your treasures in heaven where moth and rust doth not corrupt" When we worship (place first) things or people other than God, our minds are fixed on the here and now. Our minds become clouded by the affairs of this life and we forget our need for a Savior. Worship, like the ten commandments was given for our protection. God clearly doesn't need our worship. He does enjoy it though, because He yearns for a relationship with His created beings. Imagine that.

God created man to fellowship with him. This involves a relationship that includes much more than mere worship.

Worship serves a practical purpose by reminding us who we are, and by allowing us to acknowledge precisely who God is.

Once that basic understanding is clear, real fellowship between God and man becomes possible.

Our Creator doesn't need worship. Worship is for us. To keep
our minds on what is important, and to keep the lines of
communication open.
Communicating through the dimensions is no easy task.

God doesn't demand anything. He does, however, expect honor for the things He's done for us (given life, etc.).
