In principle, the language of the Koran is Arabic, but a kind of Arabic that is very difficult and much sophisticated than the modern Arabic.

Not only Koran, ancient Arabs also spoke a different level of Arabic than the modern Arabic, it is somehow similar to Shakespearean English to English speaking people today, it is English, but a very high level of English.

In their schools, Arabs are taught the classic Arabic, a Kind of Arabic that is "similar" to that of the Koran.
Nevertheless, less than 1 out of every 100 Arab speaking people can understand the correct meaning of Koran phrases without "explanation books" (Books that explain the meaning of the Koran phrases) due to its lingual complexity.

To understand Koran, you need to understand many Arabic language sciences including and not restricted to:
- Arabic Grammar and,
- Arabic Syntax.
Both are very very complicated and I guess that 1 out every 1000 (if not less) can really say they do fully understand them.

To add salt to the wound, many modern Koran clerics and in a bid to cover some scientific and legislative mishaps mentioned in the Koran they are actively engaged in a covert "plot" to re-define some of the Arabic words so that such mishaps will appear out of its original context.

So, again, in principle Koran does speak Arabic language but more than 99.99% of Arabs need Arabic-Arabic dictionary to understand its meaning.

The language of the qur'aan is in Arabic. And arabic is used today. So yes, the language is still being used. But also, that Arabic is very classical, and the Arabic that people speak these days is modern and has a few different dialects. A bit like Spanish.... you know how the Spanish, Mexicans all speak Spanish but it's slightly different?

But for those of us who do not understand Arabic, etc, there are transliterations of the qur'aan available in all languages now for guidance and understanding.
