That is tough, does she have any relatives that can help you find her mother? That would be the easiest way. Otherwise you may want to talk to attorney what your options are. You could go to social services but then you are taking the risk that they will take her away from you for while they search for the mother. You will need to have the birth mothers parental rights terminated for abandonment first. A good adoption attorney is your best bet to start.

Contact a laywer, thats your best bet. You probably have to legally publically notify this person of adoption intentions. If she is unable to be reached then most likely you will be able to adopt after a period of time. For her birth records you might have to go to the town hall, once you have legal right to, and get a copy and then apply for a social security card if she doesn't already have one. Good luck!

You definitely need to consult an attonrey locally before you sepak to anyone about this. You need to protect yourself and the child by following the letter of the law. The laws from state to state are different and no advice here is gonna be worth anything to you if it ends up being wrong and the State steps in. Get a lawyer and do what they tell you to do.

Before you do ANYTHING contact a lawyer -- he'll probably have you file charges with the police regarding parental abandonment and such...good luck to you. The lawyer will direct you where to go, but I'm sure the Mom will possibly still have to sign over rights. I'll say a prayer for you and the baby!

I agree with those who say, contact a lawyer. Too many Law & Order armchair attorneys here.
Good Luck and by the way, you are the child's mother. The other woman just gave her birth.

You have to have the mother's permission to adopt her. If not, you have to apply through the state and they will have to try to find the mother.
Either way, the mother will have to give up her rights.
How do you have her anyway? Are you classified as her guardian? That may help speed things along.
I think you will need a lawyer.

Go to www.legalmatch.com
They will match you up with an attorney based on location, what you need one for, and how much you can afford to pay. Good Luck, I hope you can adopt her soon.
