I started so called ahving panick attacks late May 2006. I have been to the ER by ambulance 3 times, because it feels like I am having a heart attack. Each time I have been to the ER they have told me that it was panick attacks....I also have had three (3) open heart surgies. So every time I have one of my attacks, I get scared. I was put on Lexapro 1 week ago. So does anybody have any advice on anxiety or panick attacks????!!!!!

I used to get them, soetimes they would seem to last days, even weeks, or months, instead of the normal 5-10 miuntes...I never took medication, but learned to deal with them "in my head", you just have to know that it is all in your head, and that you're really ok. start excercising if you are able to, due to your heart condition, running, and get in good cardiovascular shape will make a big difference.

My approach is a little different. I think that the dope will bring out the anxiety in you, but it's probably not the cause. Try to resolve your personal problems/ stress issues if you want to continue smoking. I used to smoke in high school, then i started panicking every time i got high so i just stopped. few years later i was at peace with most of the things that used to bother me, and i must say, I enjoy my ganja once in a while. Just remember that these panick attacks are not dangerous whatsoever and that nobody ever died from smoking pot. It's just not that dangerous. Good luck!

I'm so sorry, I know what your going threw. I have really bad panic attacks also. It was so bad one night I made my husband get out of bed at 12:30 load the kids in the car and take me to my mothers because I thought I was dying. I now have been taking Lexapro 10mg for about a year and feel great. It takes about a months to feel the full effect but it does work. I just thought I was crazy until I did research on them and they say Panic attacks are common. I hope you feel better soon. Just remember to take the Lexapro and you will eventually start to feel better.

I had panic attacks while I was driving for about a year after I had a bad roll-over accident in my truck. My vision would narrow and I would feel like I was going to black out which was really scary. I told myself that I didn't have to go there and willed myself to calm down by opening the window to let in cool air, or turning on the air conditioner. I breathed very deeply but very very slowly so I would not hyperventilate and really pass out behind the wheel. After about a year, the panic attacks slowed and ceased. There is nothing more calming than deep slow breathing. Once I had what I thought were anxiery attacks and they turned out to be high blood pressure. If yours is normal, I'd try the cool air, drink cool water, and try the deep slooooooowwwww breathing.
Breathe in all the way, starting by filling your abdomen with air and working up, then breathe out all the way starting high and working down to your abdomen until all air is out. Then repeat and repeat and repeat... You might try meditation. It is also wonderfully calming.

Talk to your doctor. I suffered anxiety/panick attacks for 3 years. Never talked to anyone about them. Finally went to the doctor. They put me on Zoloft. My life is 100% better. Good luck and get some help right away.

I don't know much about panic attacks, but I do know about anxiety. i was on Lexapro also and I didn't really feel much difference in terms of my dysthymia, but my anxiety was GREATLY alleviated. I hope it works for you.
