Because most clubs income these days is tied to television deals or in the lower leagues selling young talent.

Most clubs gate receipts cover the strikers wages and that's about it.

From what I understand about the Glasgow regional league that is laughably called the Scottish national league the only game anyone outside Scotland wishes to see is the old firm derby's.

Whereas the English Premiership is watched by millions around the world and as such commands higher prices for TV and therefore more money for the clubs within it.

Finances are bad because the teams don't have the TV money dished out elsewhere.. I agree it seems to be every season they continually chase has been players or ones who like the sound of easy money in Scotland. I can't understand how Lenny is wanting to buy new players when he said he has 2 teams which between them couldn't make one decent one that could win a league. The gers have shown that its not money that wins the day, its playing as a team and knowing each others moves.. I have yet to see Lenny field the same team twice, with all his chopping and changing they will never get to be a team, just a collective of over priced players who sit it out most weeks. For what Lenny needs to do, he has more than enough talent...Face it, we really don't need the strength for Europe, we are barely in it...The gers as we know are winners but do need some recruits to ease the pressure on some players who play every week, they also like Celtic have to reward their top contributors more handsomely. As for the board, its a business to them first and foremost, its a shame they do not have the convictions of some who have given more than they ever expect to receive. Its not so much a love of the game or the team but the love of money seems to rule the roost..

its all because of tv revenue the crowds in scotland do not generate enough funds for clubs to pay and buy better players even thou scottish football per head of population is the most watched in europe as in gates to the games..scottish clubs tryed to pay players big wage but they were losing big money because they were not getting that money back thats why so many clubs are in debt and now apart from the old firm they can only pay the players £1000 max if that look at the english game with there multi million pound tv deals and there clubs get a share of that scottishs club only get 15millionish to share and the old firm get most of that.. unless a chairman with lots of money buy a scottish club and they are not wanting a return for there invesment thats the only way a scottish club will buy big player again...but i personlly think its not a bad thing because clubs are being forced to breed there own players(scottish players) and its all good good for the national team give it 10 years and i bet a scottish club will win a europian trohpy again with scottish players its all good godd..look at the english leauge its all forgin players they dont care for the english game or the clubs they play for. they only want the money and the english game will suffer for it infact its already suffing for now clubs down south cant bring thou there youth players......watch this space

None of the above - I think these people have missed the point of your question.
The answer is - in todays current climate, where players can move on at the end of there contracts for free, clubs try and cash in on there assets before they leave for nothing the following transfer window.
Now, clubs know they have to get something for these players and cannot justify paying them wages for another six months to a year for the player to walk away for nothing, so they sell them to the "highest bidder". To be honest, it's almost always decided where the player is going by the player.
The club selling the player cannot in this situation decide they are not going to seel the player unless they get loads of money because the player is going to leave soon for nothing so they take what they think they would get at a transfer tribunial. ie Kris Boyd for 200,000. If Kris boyd had four years to go on his contract at Kilmarnock, Rangers wouldn't even have looked at him, they would have bought another rotten foreign dud.
The price at tribunual is set by the amount a club would still have to pay the player on his contract. As nobody gets paid that much in Scotland, this doesn't amount to very much.

The only exception to this recently has been Stan Petrov to Aston Villa, but Petrov was by miles the best player in Scotland and had three years to go on his contract.

Hope this helps.

The Old Firm's stranglehold of the game make it an unattractive proposition for fans and TV. English football will be in the same state soon since only 2 teams (possibly 1) have any chance of winning the league.

scottish football doesnt have the monopoly of the transfer market like the premiership or la liga or serie a. scotland is viewed as a mickey mouse country with poor teams and an even sadder national team. the only players who come to this country are players finishing their careers or anyone leaving goes for peanuts as the clubs are in debt and need whatever money they can lay their hands on.

its because there are not enough big stadiums for the crowd to go to then not enough people to fill the stadiums so clubs cant get enough money for players so dont play very attractive football so people wont watch it as much so sponsers wont want to give big money because the advertisements wont be seen and its not worth tv stations to give loads of money to the clubs as they know it wont be watched. its a bit of a vicious circle.typical example was collapse of the itv deal a few years ago to the lower league teams in england.
