I vote at the polls.

This is the second election in which we have machines. I just asked a friend who works as a chairman for the elections and she said that she didn't think that our area had the Diebold machine. She also said that anyone that thinks that voting absentee would bypass the machines is wrong. They put the absentee ballots through the machines too. She also told me that some places have machines with no backup paper trail. Ours are not like that. We can actually take the paper ballots and hand count them if there is any question later.

As to election day. My friends position is a paid position. She organizes and oversees the election workers and makes sure that the results get safely to the city clerks office at the end of the day.

I also will be working on election day, but as a volunteer for my party. I will be a poll watcher. We know the names, address and phone numbers of all voters who told us that they were going to vote for our candidate. I have a list and a cell phone. I can not touch anything in the election area, but I can look over the shoulder of the person who is keeping the book of who has come to vote. I check it against the names on our list. Then once an hour I call the party office and tell them who came. Depending on the election, (the presidential elections are the most organized) other volunteers either call the people who have not yet voted to get them to the poll, or in some poorer areas go to their house and offer to drive them to the poll.

PS. I called my friend again. She said in our area that are only 5 reason why you could vote absentee. If you are out of town, over 65, it violates your religion to go to the polls on that day, and a couple of others. She thought in other states that maybe the law was a bit more lax. But normally not everyone can choose to do that.

It is the GOP who is crying FOUL on the Diebold machines. Get a clue - read the NY Times article. The machines suck but GOP is saying vote Absentee Ballot - not the DEMS. The GOP wants the paper trail. To answer YOUR ? I have already voted AB - I am GOP and I want a paper trail.

I do not trust Electronic voting machines. I do not trust Diebold. The Diebold Company donates and supports the Republicans. I voted absentee and I know my vote will be counted because I coded it.
