Guess what I used to be so slow at running in like grade 4, you won't believe I'm the same person today. Now I'm the second fastest girl and the third fastest in my entire class and I'm in grade 7. I've never run a mile before, but I've run a 2.3km and I got 13 minutes, so you are not too off. You are going to have to do it anyhow. Go out right now and I want you to do a really slow jog around your block. This will help a lot. On your actual race, you have to have a positive attitude. When you start think that every step that you take is getting you closer to the finish line. And I think the crazy rapist trick would work too. Anyway start slow and sprint the last like 60m. Run it like its the end of the world. Try stickng with a person as you run. For example pick someone whoo is not too fast and stick with that person the whole time and beat him at the very end by sprinting. And just do your best. Good luck!!

Here's how not to hate the mile. Go a slow jog the whole thing and you'll only feel a little tired. This will probably help you not worry or hate the mile. The higher the grade you are, the more those miles go. I'm in 8th and do a slow jog whole thing and never have to worry or hate the mile. Maybe it will help for you.

I always hated that too because I would get a stitch in my side. So I always started with a jogging with the others but end it walking and holding my lower abdominal area because of the pain.

Why do you dislike that exercise assignment? If you have a valid reason, talk to the instructor and maybe modify the assignment. If the instructor won't listen, speak to your parents.

I could have brought a note from my doctor -- only in those days, I didn't visit a doctor regularly (we went only if someone in the family was so sick and wasn't cured with passage of time or a home remedy). Also, in those early days I was not assertive as I have since learned it is better to be.

Well to me it seems you have two options. You can either just try to run the mile, but don't full out run. Just do a nice slow jog and listen to music, if you can, and it will seen a lot easier.

Or you could go to your doctors and ask for a doctors note saying you have bad knees, ankles, etc. Or at least that worked for me. I was supposed to run 5k last year in gym, but I have really low iron, so I went to the doctors and he gave me a note right away. But that depends on your doctor.

Okay, have a friend whack your ankle with a baseball bat LOL!!!! Seriously, I had to run the mile in COLLEGE (WTF? Gym in college!). So what I did in the beginning of the semester was run it really slowly and "get cramps" and barely finish, then took the rest of the sememster working up to having a decent time. By the end of the semester, I could complete a 7:58 mile and got an A!

i would just suck it up... normally i freaked out about running the mile and would get out of it, or just walk. but then once i decided to actually do it, it was no big deal. if you really dont want to do it thenn:::
miss the day when youre supposed to run in class. then the next class pretend to be sick, the next time, run a half of a lap, then pretend to hurt your ankle. by then it should be past the date your teacher needs to submit the times by. that worked for me last year.

Omgosh.. I have to run the mile too but I have to run mine tomorrow... I'm just wearin shoes I'm not aloud to run in and 'accidentally' 'forgetting' my tennis shoes!!!!! lol.. this always works for me.. but if you can't do that.. just act sick.. or skip that class.. act like u hurt ur knee cuz not alot of kids act like they got a hurt knee, its usually ankle.. but if all of this fails.. we have to run it with laps around the gym.. and this is what I did one time (none of my methods worked.. cuz someone told her I was gonna try to get out of the mile *GGGRRRR*) but anyways I ran jogged slowly untill like the last 3 laps then I RAN real fast on those laps.. it worked.. u just have to make up for lost time when u run!

I think the more important question is why do u hate running. If its just because u r lazy then dont bother reading further. But if u want excercise. But dont want to damage yerself then point out to yer Gym teacher. You can burn just as much calories speed walking as u can running and u wont have to worry about shock damage such as bone splinters and damaged cartiladge. Just because yer young doesnt mean u dont have to worry about such things. And u can still increase yer heartrate and yer breathing. By moving yer arms more than u would normally while walking. Wich in reality will give u more of a work out than plain jogging or running you also get the same stretch walking and build muscle just as much. Just be sure to present this info to him in a respectfull manner ,and make sure to point out that you r not trying to get out of anything. U r concerned about yer health and want to excercise but u want to do it in a way that doesnt damage as much as it helps.

Just go at a nice and slow pace and don't worry about it. If you know a girl or a couple of girls [or even boys!] who are in the same situation as you, then you can jog together.

It's not bad at all if you are doing it at the same pace with a few other people.
