first of all, YES i use sunblock. :) (i barely get any sun exposure anyway.) now my skin didn't turn brown overnight or something, but just seems to very gradually be turning slightly more "tan." i don't smoke, and i eat relatively well, etc. my question is: is gradually darkening skin just a natural part of getting older? (i'm still only 28.)

What's your coloration (hair, eyes)? Brunettes or brown-eyed people tend to get slightly darker skin. Blue-eyed blonds, not so much, and green or blue-eyed redheads not at all- though there's a definite concern for a redhead with a lot of moles- melanoma!!!!

I think everyone gets darker with age. Very light blonde haired children often have brown hair as adults. My eyes were blue and I had sandy brown hair and in time my eyes became a little darker, and turned green and my hair is a medium brown. Older people are usually not as light as young people. It comes from years of being outside, and you'd need to reapply sunscreen OFTEN (several times per day) for it to be totally effective at preventing a tan. My mom is light skinned (black) as am I, but I am lighter than she is, probably because I am 32 and she is 60 and has lived more years in the sun, and before the days when wearing sunscreen became important. How do you barely get sun exposure, unless you never go out during the day? You get it while driving, even walking from your car to wherever you are going. This can darken you. Now if there is a tremendous difference in your complexion, you may want to see a dermatologist to rule out any skin problems.

That is kinda young for your skin to be getting darker, mine has gotten lighter { if that's Possible } and I'm 43. I would see a DR.
