I think it's all about learning about people directly or indirectly, it's advice, answers and debate with a WHOLE lotta people and with that come the odds you'll come across a d*ckhead or two.
If this site is only about advice as you say then why the sections FOR religion and politics? And more to the point, why the big tab up top that says discover?

A question is a question. And each individual can only answer once anyway so it's not like there's actually dialogue. And you can't really judge someone's motive. You can't say for certain that someone is actually using the site to start debates. If someone wants to know what people think, hey, why not?
And I don't think the site itself makes any claims that it's only for advice. Again, a question is a question...*shrug*
You don't have to read all of the questions, you certainly don't have to read through all of the answers. So, save yourself some aggravation and don't...

Well... they asked a question - they want people's opinions.... isnt' that what you are doing? Asking a question - starting a debate??
True, it's not religious or political - but it's still a debate.
Who says that people can't discuss those things? If you don't like it then don't read those, and move on to something else.

Well you basically started yourself a debate with this question.
I dont see anything wrong with debates on political nor religious issues, apart if the people debating really dont have any plan about it.

Yo, Dustin. It's exhausting getting involved in the political and religious questions, and nobody gets anywhere anyway. Most of the time, the questioners aren't looking for answers, but rather looking to incite tempers. Bull crap.

Yes, the political stuff can be a real bore to see, especially when there are so many people with serious questions that truly want an honest answer.

depends what the question is i mean if its a question like 'what do you think of the war in iraq"' then its perfectly fine to start a political debate but if its something like 'what car gets the best gas mileage; then just answer the question

Well in reality I haven't faced that but I agree with you if I did because this "is" for advice not for people to debate about other things...

No, I’m not with you. Yahoo!Answers is a good place to learn something new, the hear what people are thinking, what they are concerned on. And is very simple, if you don’t like a question, just ignore it.

Yeah, I'm tired of people speaking like they are God's mouth piece. And we all know all politicians are liars, so both sides are pretty much evil.
