You do need to see a psychiatrist, a counselor, or a therapist. It sounds like social anxiety disorder, but I am not a doctor. Just going by personal experience. You can do some research online about social anxiety.

I agree that you should go and see your gp (local doctor) and hopefully they can refer you to a professional that can help you, even if it is just to reassure you. The fact that you are worried and have some insight into your feelings and emotional state is really positive. You may have an anxiety disorder or something like that but it also sounds as if you have very low self esteem too which obviously isnt being helped by the negative and hurtful comments you have been receiving. Sometimes if people say things often enough we start to believe them. The other thing to realise is that i think one in three of us suffer from mental health problems in some time in our lives and these problems are on a spectrum. Stay strong from natalie x

As concerned as you appear to be about this issue , it seems to me time to take some steps to find out if there are any real mental health problems. I would suggest that you start with an appointment with your regular doctor. You need to be very honest and upfront when discussing the extent of your concerns. Your doctor may then recommend that you see a mental health professional. If this is not suggested and you remain worried you may want to take this step yourself.Best of luck !

If you graduated from high school without the label, let alone were accepted in college, then you are not mentally retarded.
Mental illness is not a stigma but a label to help people as they help themselves to change. Go to the school counseling center and ask for help. Sounds like you have a problem with confidence and self esteen and counseling will help. Been there.

Good for you to notice that you are unhappy with this situation and that you evaluate yourself " from a distance".
What to do? Hmm, if there is no apparend reason to be scared or nervous then there is a certain paranoia involed recon? Could be loads of things, a psychiatrist / psychologist is the way to go. Have a session and see what they think.

It sounds ;ike you have a psychosocial disorder such as anxiett, clusters or depression. You need to have a mental health assessment with your gp. Often things as simple as lifestly can change you.

You should make an appointment to see a psychiatrist (does not mean you are crazy!) she/he can give you some medication if that is what you need to help you feel better. It is good to talk to a counselor also, but they can not prescribe medications.
