Try SOS (Save Ourselves):
http://sossobriety.org/

They also have a yahoo group for online support:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/sossaveourselves/

or SMART:
http://www.smartrecovery.org/

or WFS (Women for Sobriety):
http://www.womenforsobriety.org/

or LifeRing:
http://www.unhooked.com/index.htm

All of these have face to face meetings as well as online support.

Rational Recovery does not have meetings, but many swear by their methods:

They do offer tapes and such for sale, but they have the basic program on their website for free, or check for books by Jack Trimpey at your local library.

People claim you don't have to follow any religion to be in AA, but I found it to be untrue. I struggled in AA on and off for almost twenty years, only getting a few months sobriety at a time. Mostly, I was shunned for being a non-believer and the only people who would talk to me were those who thought they could convert me.

I've stayed sober using online support for 5+ years now.

AA in Australia is all non christian except those run by The Salvation Army but even they dont push Christianity on you .My father inlaw struggled with alcohol all his life he would give up and just 1 drink and he could'nt stop .Even doctors struggle to help .The best advice is keep him away from friends that drink and keep him busy doing some thing .In present time here drugs are more front page news alcoholics fade into the background because alcohol is legal drugs are not .Have a nice day try not to get to invovled unless the person themselves want help your wasting your time.

I do agree with the first poster, AA is not as bad as it seems for non christians, however the rhetoric does get tiring and the closing prayers are somewhat annoying. It DOES work though, and you CAN work the program in a NON-DOGMATIC way.
Persoanlly, I gravitate towards a more philosophical approach and have been sober for 3 years. I highly reccomend reading a book called "Buddhism and the 12 steps" by Kevin Griffin. It is a more open approach to the 12 steps. Also, mediataion has been the key to my success in recovery. It has allowed me to completely change my life for the better and I have never been happier. This kind of happiness can OF COURSE also be found through christianity and ALL spiritual persuasions. This just happens to be what has worked for me. Best of luck, recovery is the harder path, but the most rewarding.

There are all kinds of people at AA meetings, being an alcoholic is a desease and not something someone wants to do. I know a person who goes to church every Sunday and also reads the Bible, but he also drinks. I don't find him a bad person just because he drinks, Remember, it is not for us to judge anyone.

Not really, but you don't have to be religious to do the 12 steps. I'd say the majority of people in AA are religiously or spiritually oriented, but not all. Many "atheists" and "agnostics" have been able to use the 12 steps effectively. I'm one of them.

You have the wrong idea about AA. There are atheists, agnostics, and people of all religions.

Just go to a meeting and see for yourself. Almost everyone who comes there feels the same way you do and they realize they were misinformed.

AA is spiritual, but not Christian. They use the concept of a higher power, but never name a diety or use religious symbols.

i do no longer probable think of there's a perfect or incorrect answer for this question. i do no longer probable think of that's significant regardless of if "christians" drink alcohol or no longer. i think that's import the way you interpret the text textile, and what the Holy Spirit has convicted you of. What i think of is so beautiful relating to the bible is that it extremely is interpreted in a super form of distinctive strategies, and it saddens my heart that persons tend to make policies approximately christianity that merely are not authentic. i visit declare, for me in my opinion, I do drink alcohol, yet carefully. fairly, my theory tactics is, "don't get inebriated on wine, which finally ends up up in debauchery. rather, be crammed with the Spirit." - Ephesians 5:18
