Chocolate or Cocoa, is made of a fatty substance, and when chocolate is not at a constent temperature, the fat molecules, migrate throughout the product, causing 'bloom', which look like sandy white spots. They are harmless. It is not mold, beacuse mold doesnt grow on M&Ms

Are you from the west coast? I notice this stuff a long time ago when I went to Vegas. The Hershey candy bars here are much much much better. By the time they hit over to the west coast it becomes stale i think. I bought one when I was in Vegas and the dang thing had white stuff all over it. You west coasters don't know what a good hershey candy bar is. Next time your in the east coast check this out.

It is called bloom. Chocolate gets this when it is stale or has been exposed to moisture. You can eat chocolate with bloom, but it is a less than desirable experience.
Call the number on the bag and ask for a coupon.

I don't think it's mold. Sometimes when they get hot, or melted in transit, they get that white stuff when they get their shape again. They should be edible. Don't throw them out. Call the 800 number and they usually give you a coupon for a free bag!

Often, if chocolate melts, then cools again, the chocolate will take on a whitish overcoat. It does not necessarily mean the chocolate is bad, but I would want to exchange it for a fresh one.
