In the UK there is NO grace period - that's why it actually has an expiry date. After that date & time - it is no longer valid.

Whoever told you that is a moron!

This is a fallacy which has come about due to the way most insurance companies DO work their customers who buynew cars.

You see, if you were getting a new car and transferring the insurance over, you'd hvae a grace period in which you need to take the car to the insurance agent and have the car inspected. This in no way implies that you get insurance for a car when y ou have not paid for it.

there is no such thing as a grace period anymore, some companies will cancel if payment not received by the due date, other will use the mailing date and a few will accept a late payment (only a few days) if it is from a good customer with a good track record...go ahead and renew your policy, then when you get your new car just call the insurance company to delete the old car and add the new one

Nope! The policy expires at 11:59 PM on the 28th. From that moment onwards, you are not covered.

Some companies may allow a grace period for you to reinstate a lapsed policy without paying a penalty, assuming that there are no claims while the policy is in lapsed status. That will be spelled out in your policy if it's offered.

I would recommend one to visit this website where you can get quotes from different companies: http://COVERAGEQUOTES.NET/index.html?src=2YAyvO50ouc

Why would any company give you free insurance? On home policies we have 30 days grace, but if you don't pay your renewal or return your documents, you get cancelled and billed for the time on risk. Car insurance is over when it is over. Renew, then transfer your insurance when you get your new car.

it is not true that you have any period of grace. Insurance policys are time and date restricted. They expire on a certain date at a certain time, after that you are not covered to drive.
As for 14 days grace in relation to tax....also not so. It the vehicle is sighted without tax you may be taken to court for the offence.
Hope this helps

Definitely no! It's the car tax that has 14 days grace.

Insurance agencies have diffrent grace periods. Most of the time they will insure you, but if you don't pay they can still charge you and if you still don't pay it can be turned into a collection agency. Your best bet is to pay the insurance and have it transfered over to the new car in two weeks

Would not trust that at all - insurance companies will get out of paying out claims any way they can. If you had an accident within the 14 day period you can be damn sure they wouldn't pay out. I think they might have to write to you to advise you first though.
