Dying your hair generally does some damage. Damaged hair isn't usually as smooth as healthy hair. It is also usually a little dry (because the nutrients is stripped a little). All of that probably makes it a little fluffy. Make sure you condition often afterwards and with a good conditioner. Most of the stuff you get from walmart or the grocery store is mostly oily and doesn't really repair anything.

Your hair feels fluffy because an at home hair dye has a lot of ammonia in it which is used to perm hair!! So you might be saving money by doing it yourself, your hair is getting more and more damaged!! You really should consider just going to a salon to get your hair colored!! And also just a thought. most of the time the at home hair dye kits don't go the color you want it to and you will have to pay hudreds of dollars to get it stripped out! I had to do that to some one at the salon I work at! She wanted her hair black and it went green so I would really reconsider using that stuff!!!!

It shouldn't if it is a decent kind. The dye itself strips your hair of all the natural oils, making it feel like straw. After the deep conditioner that comes with it, the feel of your hair should return to normal. If not, switch brands. I love Clairol Natural Instincts (semi-permanent). If you are into the permanent stuff, I would recommend Herbal Essences. L'oreal is great, too.

The hair folicle is puffed up to allow the dye to penetrate.

Probally b/c you just used the conditioner that came with the dye that temporarilly makes your hair look nice, but in a few days it will look dry.
