i have light blue walls and have tan/brown cushions. any ideas what would warm it up for the curtains and rug?

Those colors are so "in" right now. you could go to the fabric store and look at the fabric with those colors plus a third. Use the third color to help you select a rug color, than use the same color from the rug for additional accessories like vases and such.

Use Navy blue or chocolate brown accessories throw pillows area rugs curtains etc.

Yellow curtains and a rug with the combination of blue,tan and yellow. The yellow could be a tone you like.

Try a pattern rug or drapes. Then choose one of the other solid colors in it, besides blue or brown, for the other and for pillows.

White. You are going for an airy/sky feeling to your room. What goes well with with light blue or sky colored blue...cloud white.
