Someone told me that in the US healthy babies take a long time to get because there is such a demand for them so some people find it easier, when they want a baby, to adopt out of the country because the process is easier.

I heard one reason is when adoptions are from overseas they are final. Adoptions here are precarious because some long lost relative can pop up and make a claim to the child or the parents can change their mind and want the child back. In this circumstance overseas adoptions are less likely to be challenged unlike the U.S.'s guidelines and laws. I remember where this couple had raised the child they had adopted from 2 months to the age of 5 and all of a sudden here comes some uncle saying he has a right to raise that child and the courts gave him custody. That was wrong.

For many it is an increase in sympathy factor. "AWW Madonna is such a great little Brit for saving a child from those mean evil African streets." They use it for the publicity and to get their name out there as well. To adopt an american child they would be prone to US laws and follow ups as well as lose the AAWW factor. Many of these children are adopted, placed with a nanny and visited between tours and filmings. This is more of the shame than actually doing something to change the environment for 1000's, they save just 1 instead and condemn the rest to the life that they are used too.

One of the main reasons in the increase of international adoptions is the "red tape wait" here in the USA. It takes an average of 6 years to go through the process compared to about one year when adopting from countries like China or Russia.

I agree with you! I believe everyone who wants to adopt should take a shot at foster parenting. Not only does it give you experience with your future adoption, it gives you a sense of the need for families here in the U.S. who have willing hearts to adopt. It is nothing but a blessing, I highly recommend!

I totally agree with you. There are so many babies here in the U.S. who could use a family! I think the celebs feel they are saving the LIVES of the babies they adopt in Africa, though. So many babies there starve and die. Here, at least they live.

It's the cool thing to have a kid from another country.
You think that they'd get the same attention from some kid out of Kansas?
It part of the" I'm going to help the world, end hunger, and free Tibet" attitude.

very good question.......If I am not mistaken Madonna adopted the child from an orphanage that she funded or is funding in some way....another question.....why did she have cameras around her when she went there.....ummmmmm....maybe for publicity?????
It makes them look good...............and making themselves look good keeps them in demand....and keeping them in demand.....keeps money in their pockets.
