My daughter was about the same at that age - just make sure he is active and eating healthy foods and don't worry too much. He will also gain a bit of weight before a growth spurt - if you are really worried just check with his DR and see what they think.

Know if you need to lose weight
Health specialist use a measure called BMI, short for Body Mass Index. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women. This gives a good measure of your total body fat. BMI compares your height and weight. It shows if you are underweight, at a healthy weight, or overweight.
You know how many pounds are there in 1 kg. Do not know let me help you, it is 1 kilogram = 2.20462262 pounds. Check out what your BMI is by using the BMI calculator.
http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/adult_BMI/english_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.htm
BMI Category
Below 18.5 Underweight
Between 18.5 - 24.9 Healthy Weight
Between 25 - 29.9 Overweight
Over 30 Obese
Look at the BMI chart to find out how much weight you need to lose to move from obese to overweight or from overweight into a healthy range. Knowing this can help you set a good weight loss goal.

No he is not overweight. He is at the high end for weight and age. Keep an eye on him and don't let him gain too much more weight to quickly. Be proud that you have a healthy little boy. Don't start depriving him. See this website. It has some good charts on it.

I would take this question to your family doctor that knows of you and your family physical background. Some children can seem large when in fact they are only between stages of growth. However if you have a concern it might be time to check into it. The doctor will know the answer for sure.

He's in the 95th percentile which isn't overweight. Just make sure you feed him healthy. Don't give him snacks or treats when he's fussy and make sure he plays a lot. Especially as he gets older make sure he's active and not just sitting around watching tv or playing video games all the time. Is he also tall for his age? If he is I wouldn't worry about it, he's just a big kid.

Height would have helped with this question.
Seriously though, LOOK at him. Now, is he? Of course, most kids will have something of a beer gut, but you know the answer to your own question.

I wouldn't say so, he is likely building up for a growth spurt.
