any one connected with any non profit organization must be careful of How the money that was raised is spent.

for example a Non Profit group in our area raised money to help the poor and when they were audited it was found of every $1.00 (dollar ) raised .50 (half a penny) was spent on the poor. the rest was spent by the group on very lavish parties and other so called fund raising events.

Endorsing a particular political candidate, ballot initiative, or agenda.
But there's considerable leeway in this -- for example, Gov. Arnold in California visited two churches over the weekend, and made political speeches at each one...but the churches didn't get in trouble. As long as you've got the right friends, you're fine. If you go against the Bush administration, though, watch out -- they'll enforce the law. A liberal church in Calif. is in trouble because the pastor told his congregation to vote their consciences and choose peace -- which the adminstistration interpreted as them being against the Iraq war, and now they might have their non-profit status taken away. Selective enforcement? You bet! Welcome to W's version of 1984.

The people that run any non profit org. cannot divert funds from the non profit to themselves or other individuals for personal or political purposes but must follow the legitimate non profitable purposes as set forth in the rules for sections 501c3 organizations.

Recently, here in Minnesota, a minister endorsed a Republican for US Representative. Apparently, there were members of the congregation who didn't feel the same way and he was reported to the IRS. The IRS is currently reviewing the church's tax-exempt status.

....oops..........
