FYI, the hood scoop is very much a functional scoop. It's just not for the us. The majority of tacomas sold around the world (known as a hilux) are powered by diesel engines. The hood scoop is used on those diesels for the intercooler. Americans liked the loods back on the "highlander" trim package of the 3rd gen 4runners and the hood scoop became a common asthetic feature on american gas powered tacomas.

As for making it a useable scoop for your truck, I don't think a kit is available. It would probably be fairly expensive and there would be little noticeable benefit. Your already getting cool air from the fender, and a taco shouldn't be driven at enough speed to get any noticeable pressurized induction. A supercharger from TRD would give a boost in power and if you want to get the intake up a safari snorkle from ARB should do the trick. I agree that it would be cool, but I'm not sure there is enough room to fit the ducting in on top of the engine.

Good Luck.

The air intake for the engine on the Tacoma is not on top of the engine. If you did open up the hood under the scoop, the only thing you would accomplish would be to have a hole in the hood in a non-functional location. Additionally, if you are in an area that gets rain, you might have an issue with water getting into the electronics when you're driving in the rain as part of the hood's function is to prevent this. I agree with the other posters, don't do it.

Dont do it. The air intake is in front of the fake hood scoop so it wouldnt do you any good. Its for looks only.
