I think Joe Mesi is good for Boxing. A little disappointing that he didn't start his professional career until his 20s, and that he has undergone the medical problems which have prohibited from fighting for a little while and made his opponent picks more a cautious and challenging decision for his handlers. I think technically he is a sound fighter and his style and ring generalship remind me of boxers of old (Marciano etc...) He handles himself well with all of his post fight interviews; his mannerisms and verbal skills intact. He is always self critical even through some of his most one sided victories. I like the fact that he is involved with organ donation charitites and stroke charities etc. Plus he is unorthodox in that he makes no attempt to talk smack to or about his opponents before or after a fight, but just gives them their proper graces. I've definately seen better and more gifted fighters, but as said, I think Baby Joe is good for boxing. Brent?, Brad? Santana?

Keeper of the Green ~
In my opinion, Joe has looked anything but impressive since his return to the ring, I'm not quite sure if it's psychological or he just needs more time to adjust, but "Buffalo's favorite franchise" must realize most boxers don't care if he's a nut case or he needs time to figure things out.
Joe gets hit way too much for my liking and he is considered a small Heavyweight, Jirov pushed him around the ring like he owned him. Joe seems like a nice enough guy and he's a good looking kid, maybe he should think about becoming a commentator.
Boxing is a very unforgiving sport, the most unforgiving of all and if Joe gets cracked with a good shot who knows what can happen. I'm not questioning his heart or dedication, anyone who has seen him fight knows that he has a warriors spirit, but I like the fact that he has no signs of dementia and I can still understand him when he speaks, to me this is more important than if Joe can get a shot at the Heavyweight title or not, which by the way he wont, he's too small, he gets hit too much and he doesn't have the punch needed to become a legitimate top ten Heavyweight.
Thanks Keeper of the Green, good question.

Keeper of the Green - I must apologize in advance if there is one particular weight class that I'm disinterested in it's the current heavyweight division. I don't think I could give you an informative answer but I can say this. Mesi strikes me as a good honorable person, but in today's heavyweight division I think he lacks size and a punch. I really don't think he has much of a shot at the title.
Keeper - when the next great heavyweight comes along I'm going to make a pilgrimage like the wise men did and bring gifts of frankincense and myrrh. That's how badly I'm waiting for the man to arrive. The resurrection of boxing is depending on it in my opinion.

The belt he held was once an meantime identify and no longer an international championship. I in my view don't feel he has what it takes to overcome the first-rate, even though correct now the heavyweight department as a complete has little or no pageant. Mesi is a B fee fighter at first-rate!

Really like was previously said he lost it. I don't know if it was the time away and the head injury but he is nowhere near the same fighter. It makes you wonder why he is even coming back. I can't imagine him beating any top 10 fighter. He was on the road to earning an alphabet title before the injury. He had really fast hands for a heavyweight puncher.

a good matchup for baby joe geez thats a tough one...well first off avoid any fighter with power...make sure the opponent has a weak chin...poor defense and no stamina, avoid any fighter with a winning record ....yeah that should do it and the rocky comparison yeah i see it but rocky marciano is dead and when he was alive and boxing he was in my opinion very overrated again just like baby joe.

He is a great boxer with tremendous skill. But ever since he sustained that head injury he doesnt seem quite the same. I feel that it has effected him in some way. But i do think that he has some fights comming up soon.

Really? I don't think he's good for boxing. Because all it takes is for him to REALLY go against somebody who's a strong headhunter & if that condition of his worsens we have a horror story in the making. He was interesting to watch before his time off, but now...
