Ok here is my thoughts. Part of the problem with our southern border is that there is no real punishment when illegals are caught entering. Here is what I think we should do. When they are caught entering then the sentance for the crime is one year in a work camp. The work camp then bids for contracts on construction work etc... Should be enough income to pay for the program and put some into other areas like education. After they serve the year then they are returned home.

I've had very similar thoughts. I agree, sounds great. The number of people sneaking in would drop to virtually nothing overnight.

You'll need to have a big daycare center and school on site for all the kids. But seriously that won't work. You don't want to give them a reason to say that they really are the white man's slaves, do you? It'd be cheaper just to send them back. But for repeat offenders......well no. If you want to lock someone up start with the employers of illegal aliens.

It does sound like slave labor, since they would not be paid (even prisoners here are paid). It is also more time than is usually given for a crime like trespassing.
Without compensation, the workers' families will starve back home--believe me, people do not come here to take jobs away from you, they do it because they have to because they have no way of supporting their families at home.

Sounds like a plan to me. No it is not slave labor, it is the sentance for a crime. And the compensation they recieve could be like maybe a couple bucks an hour or something.

As crazy as it sounds, most illegal immigrants would die for the opportunity such as the one you are proposing. Most of them are starving, have no clean water or decent shelter where they are coming from. A chance to work for food, shelter and hot showers would be a dream come true for them.

I want you to think about what I just said. Why do you think so many of them die just trying to get in to this country? Their lives in Mexico sucks!

It is great to be an American.

Why do you want to put them in construction areas? Why not hospitals, office work, maybe even legal assistants for illegal immigrants. I'm in construction work and I'm not ready to give up my job to anyone, are you?

Good idea, but then we have to take care of them for a year. Why do that. Hire more border agents, allow them to shoot on site when caught crossing illegally. I think that might stop them faster. It's harsh but illegal crossing is getting out of hand. Build a swamp with alligators and such.

Just send em home...and get the fence built...fine the employers, make illegal entry physically really difficult, and same-day-service on discovery...

I don't know if that would be much of a punishment. Many of them already work in constuction.
