Cheese, sherry (or other alcohol), and flour. Those are the ingredients for fondue. Many people are lactose intolerant, but it doesn't usually react by swelling.

Some people have an allergic reaction to alcohol. Could this be it?

Flour allergies can be common as well. People are usually allergic to wheat.

Good luck.

You did what you should do. Take an antihistamine. You are allergic to one of the ingredients. You just need to figure out which one. Was it chocolate fondue? Do you have a problem when you eat chocolate? If not, then it is probably one of the other ingredients. You just have to think of each one and rule them out until you figure out which one you are allergic to then avoid it. If you are having trouble breathing then see a doctor.

I don't know if you can be allergic to one type of cheese and not another. Could it be wine? My sister breaks out in hives when she drinks red wine, but not white wine.

Allergens attack the tissue and skin cells in the human body, but every allergen causes different reactions. I have allergies to plants, cats, metals, and pizza. Each one does something different to me. If you have or had a sever reaction antihistamines can only do so much, especially if its food. Google allergies and fondue, but go to a doctor and ask to be tested for allergies or call the pharmacy for more tips. Serious affects can be worse later on if you don't take care of it now.

Do you have any shellfish issues? That's the first thing that popped into my head. Regardless, take some benedryll immediately and consider heading to the ER if it gets even the tiniest bit worse. Swelling can happen in your throat, too, and you've got worlds of problems then!!!!

Sure. I suggest you take some benedryl and go to an allergy doc to get tested.
