Fiance was married through Catholic Church 17 years ago.It lasted 3 weeks. Was legally divorced in 4 months. He caught her in bed with uncle.Never had children. We are both Catholic, baptized. We already went through all the Catholic requirements. The issue is that my fiances Catholic Baptized paper shown no notation.Just like mine. And although we have our date set.He chose to come clean with priest. The priest asked him for divorce papers and for marriage certificate, and 3 witness. My question is how long is the process? Why did it not show in the church documents. They cant even find the certificate.

The Catholic Church believes that God does not recognize civil divorces.

Jesus said, "Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." (Mark 10:9)

However there may be hope of a declaration of nullity.

The term "annulment" is a misnomer because the Church does not undo or erase a marriage bond.

Rather the Church issues a declaration of nullity when it discovers that the parties were not truly joined by God and hence a full spiritual sacramental marriage as understood by the Church was not present.

Then the parties are free to marry for the first time.

Approach the appropriate person your in your parish who has been trained in the process. If you encounter difficulties, you may go directly to the diocese.

Be prayerful, honest and patient. It takes a while. I am told the process usually takes about a year.

With love in Christ.

It will take approx a year and the process will definitely be an eye opener and really make you question what you believe.

My wife and I were married 2 years ago. We did the same, began the annulment process as she was married before. We were told that basically it was a foregone conclusion that the annulment would go through as the church doesnt really ever refuse an annulment.

This led to the conclusion that the process is a farce and a way for teh church to get $1,000 from you. I mean once we started the process they put us on a payment plan like we were buying a car. We received an invoice in the mail and everything. It was absurd and eye opening.

That all said I am a proud catholic and like any religion I feel there are flaws as people are flawed and this is one example.

Bottom line we found a nice Lutheran minister and were very happy with the mass. The readings are the same as you may know. It was very fulfilling and we have no regrets.

Consider it. Good Luck!

hi, i will talk for the RC church. My spouse's annulment took approximately 5 months, my sister's annulment 8 months, yet my aunt's and step daughter's in-rules' annulment took approximately 10 years. I certainly have noted one million - 3 years could be an common. LOL, in my spouse's case issues fairly speeded up using fact her ex - husband went ballistic whilst the tribunal contacted him for his component of the story and he informed them to shove the varieties and interview up their posteriors. rather of slowing the approach down as he wanted to do, it purely had the alternative result, re-imposing her element related to his character and dedication. in fact you notice your parish priest related to your want for an annulment. They deliver you to three church secretarial types and clergymen who sit down with you over quite a few days or longer for written and taped interviews related to your issue. All tips is sent to a close-by tribunal who be certain on your case. They then deliver you a perfect letter / checklist asserting your marriage is annuled and you're unfastened to marry interior the Catholic church. there became a value in my case on account that those each and every physique is working interior the flexibility of church legal experts yet without problems my spouse's value approximately 4 hundred.00 US. Cheers, Michael Kelly
