It's easy to be skeptical about the government, but in this case I'd like to give Bush the benefit of the doubt. How is the 700-mile long fence that President Bush authorized today going to be better than previous fences?
According to T.J. Bonner, "A fence will slow people down by a minute or two, but if you don't have the agents to stop them it does no good."
But I'd like to think that this fence is somehow better than previous fences. Maybe if someone knows where I could some blueprints of the fence or perhaps an article explaining why this fence is so great it would satisfy my curiosity. Thanks!

For those of you who are interested, I found some "pseudo-blueprints" located here:

You want the blue prints to the fence.........I bet you do
It is a fence to the first poster not a wall. Its going to be actually 2 fences with space in between.
One of the other fences is doing its job very well in California
For example, over a 10 -mile stretch of the border near San Diego, arrests of illegal immigrants have plummeted from about 25,000 per year three years ago to 3,000 per year today. Violent crimes have virtually come to a halt in that area, according to the San Diego PD. [Valerie Alvord, “Border fence plan runs into a barrier,” USA Today, April 19, 2004
The reason? The government built a fence. Or more precisely, a complex of two 16-foot high steel fences separated by a wide road.
It takes so much time to climb the first fence and cut through the second that apprehension is practically inevitable. Illegals have simply stopped trying to enter along the fenced border.

Right now, anything is better then nothing. It's great that they are building this fence and I am glad that they have decided to go with an actual fence instead of a "virtual fence," but in my gut I have a feeling that this is not going to change much...especially after what happened to the 2 boarder patrol agents that shot a mexican drug dealer in the butt. They are sentanced to 10 or 11 years? I think that's what they got, possibly more.
It may stop some, but not many. What we need is enforcement of the laws and less political correctness.

How is it better? It's large enough/long enough to make it a real stony ***** to just walk into our country in the places where that's been the status quo for years and years. It's also a great thing to look at, a tangible aspect of the whole border security debate...
T.J.'s got a point, but another benefit of a fence is that it can't be bribed...

It must be going to do something different because Mexico is really upset and so are the liberals.
If Mexico would worry about itself for a while and keep its citizens there maybe WE won't have to build a fence or stand guard day and night.
If Mexico can't or won''t keep its people home the USA should cut all aid into their country. Cut the purse strings and let them fend for themselves.
Parents have to do it every year with young adults or they will never stand on their own two feet.

Remember when the democrats wanted to build a fence when Clinton was president, but the Republicans blocked it? Now, it is a good idea, now that Bush is President.

Maybe he's spent more American tax-dollars to make the fence more "Alien Proof". Maybe there's rotary guns. Maybe barbed wire. Maybe Tito Ortiz clones on both sides waiting to KO anyone who prepares to climb over.

This one makes people think that the republicans are doing something, so they will all get re-elected so that Bush can be a dictator with no oposition still.
