I just now realized that I have been actively involved in a cult. Silly me.

But whoa. My whole reality is changing in a day.

How did you get through this time?

It was Sukyo Mahikari. A Japanese cult that practices a very powerful Light healing energy that kept me thinking if the light works then everything they say must be true... with a healthy dose of impending doom.

This consumed my life for 11 years.

I feel so dumb.

I started thinking for myself. I weighed the evidence, considered the options and went with what seemed to make the most sense. I also started reading books and talking to people that based their lives on reason and logic and evidence. It was like a breath of fresh air.

Just use your brain - it feels good.

Good luck,

A

Continue studying to find out more about the cult, it's lies, deceptions, it's explanations of "new light". It may hurt at first, but then it becomes a fascination, you will want to help others get out as well.

Only Jesus can give you freedom of mind and heart.

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Joh 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Come to Jesus and experience security, freedom and Gods Love.
In Christ in Love,

Generic answer for anyone that wants to change from one way of life to another (works for break-ups, changes in religion and changing habits - whatever).

Find good friends that can share other good things in the world with you, and spend more time with them.

Find a good hobby - something that makes you feel happy and peacefull and spend more time doing that.

Esentially - distract yourself with good things.

My experience was with the Mormons. I realized myself over time, that in all the years I went to church there, they never used the Bible. I finally read The Book of Mormon from cover to cover and saw what a crock it was and had to get out. I stopped going to church and requested ex-communication, but they never gave it to me.

I spent a lot of time around like-minded people.

I vented.

I read books by people who'd recently come out of mind-control to give me validation.

I kept reassuring myself that things would get better over time (and they did!)

If it was a christian mind control cult, you might try www.ex-christian.net. Lots of ex-culties and a nice support group.

...Spend lots of time reading and meditating on the Scriptures. Observe these verses:
Joshua 1:8 - This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
**********************************************
Psalm 1:1-6
1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
***********************************************
...And last, but not least, put away anxiety and fear, pray with thanksgiving, and order your thought life after His word - pay close attention to the end of verse 7 and verse 9:
Philippians 4:6-9 says:
6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition ([a]definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.
7 And God's peace [shall be yours, that [b]tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].
9 Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of [a]untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.
...Spending lots of time in God's word and meditating on it will help clear your mind and calm you down. I have seen it work.
...I wish all readers a blessed eternity - I urge you to trust in Jesus as Lord & Savior.

Deep down inside you know when something is right or not, its whether you want to accept it or not. If you have found the light than Jesus will change you from the inside out :)

Read non-canonical sources of the eras and the history of how the church was formed...
