They say you shouldn't, but when I get one I always burst it and then fill it with medicine. It hurts like hell but it seems to help speed the healing.

A fever blister is most likely caused by the herpes simplex virus. If you burst the blister the virus can spread. But technically you can physically pop the blister.

Yeah. I always do. Instead of growing huge and swollen, it just dries up and goes away. But make sure you get it in one go, and wash your hands afterwards. It also helps to put a little rubbing alcohol, peroxide or 0.2%-2.0% salicylic acid formula on it.

dont know about breaking it , but zovirax 5% cream gets rid of them fast, By prescription of course.
