I have a 2 year old Part Lhaso Ahpso dog that will not eat anything except cat food, table scraps Or Iams Stews. We've bought Kibbles and Bits, Iams Dry Dog Food, Wet Dog Food, No Name Dry Dog Food and he isn't fond of any of it. Has anyone else had this problem or do you know of a reason why my dog won't eat?

well amysbuttabutta, you seem to have quite the attitude going....saying that if we can't afford expensive dog food then we shouldn't have a dog. I highly doubt that animal shelters feed their dogs the best of the best when it comes to dog food but their animals are far from starving to death now aren't they. My parents dog loves Kibbles and Bits and if we hand feed our dog the dry food, he will eat it. He just is reluctant to help himself to the bowl lol. We bought the Beneful (sorry i said iams before, it was a mistake) dry food for him because he seems to enjoy the Beneful stews and Beneful is good for dogs. But it's only been a few days, maybe he'll come around. Keep the answers coming though! They are appreciated!

As long as you feed it table scraps it will never eat dog food. Try buying a good dog food. Kibbles and Bits is not good food. Try Wellness or Life’s Abundance Premium Dog Food.

The reason is quite simple - you've trained him not to eat dog food!!
Select a good quality, dry food, put it in your dog's bowl and DO NOT give him anything else. A dog will not starve himself to death - so far this dog has been able to eat all kinds of stuff that's not good for him, but that he likes, so he doesn't have to eat his food.
Leave his food down for about 20 minutes, if he doesn't eat it, pick it up and offer it again at his next meal time. If you don't give in and feed him (no treats either until he's been re-trained), he'll start eating soon.

A trip to the vet can rule out any illnesses or digestive disorders. As the others have said, the dog has trained you to give him people food. Buy a good brand and that is all he gets period.
My dog is also fussy, the only thing she will eat is Nutro lamb and rice. That dog eats better than I do, I sure don't get lamb every day.

Here is my advise to you... I have had a dog that was very picky on what he ate. I would try differant ones till i finally found a very good dog food that he really liked... I wouldnt let your dog eat cat food anymore. dogs dont digest cat food very good and it has more fat in it then dog food. I would take him completly take him off all table scraps and just put down dry dog food down.. I learned that a dog will not starve them selves like a cat will if they dont like the food, so when he gets hungery enough then he will eat the dog food that is down for him,, I hope this helps and good luck

I had the same problem with my Lhaso until I started feeding her Nutro Max. I feed her the small bite lamb mix. She will pass up table food to eat this dog food, that is how much she likes it. I was advised by my groomer to feed her this food to help with shedding and it worked wonders.

Well for starters, you need to try a premium food. Some dogs won't eat the cheap stuff. Try some Eagle Pack hollistic cuz it is all natural and all dogs like it. It is expensive, but worth it. You can buy it at a pet store that sells premium food. Petsmart doesn't sell it. And actually BRAND does matter. All dogs should eat something premium. If you can't afford it, then don't get a dog! It's not my fault that you are POOR and can't take GOOD care of your animal. If you were smart, which obviously you're not, then you would feed premium food if you REALLY LOVE your animal. Get a job and quit whining like a baby!!!!!!!!! And also, alot od the shelters here do feed premium food. I know cuz my husband delivers it!

She's spoiled (as she should be!)...No, really...she knows if she turns her nose up at it, you'll give her something good to eat! So just stick to your guns, and make her eat what you put in front of her. Brand doesn't matter..just feed whatever brand works best for you and your dog.
