Disagree.
But it would appear that way looking at mankind's record throughout history. Some of the bloodiest injuries and wars have been caused by religious leaders and their followers. But I would call those not true Christians.
Many have gone to prisons and enslavement for their beliefs. If not died for them. That too is history.
So although I see why the comment was made-I also see that it is not 100% accurate and I wouldn't promote it as truth.

I agree to an extent but I also disagree. What is considered love to one person or group is considered hate to someone else. Most Christians claim to be about love and some of them are. Most though are very hypocritical and hateful, yet continue to claim to be about love.
Mayas and Aztecs would be considered hateful to most of us today but back then, no one thought anything of it if they belonged to those groups. To my understanding, when Islam was written, it was not intended with the hate that is common of Middle Eastern rulers, police and suicide bombers, which have become a stereotype for an entire group of people.
The other religions out there are fairly peaceable and thus have not destroyed people.

Christianity = more people than can be counted
Islam = more people than can be counted
Judaism = battles the two above
Hinduism = They are still hunting witches
Scientology = websites devoted to the toll
Not every religion perhaps, I can't account for all of the aboriginal belief systems. Wicca has been relatively benign so far. Buddhism has self immolating protesters, but I don't think the religion encourages that.

Too many of the religions of this world are based upon a system of hate, even though they say that they are really based upon love. Yea, the love all right, they love anyone who agrees with them, and hate all others. There is however one religion that IS based upon love, and that is the religion that God created, study it in the Bible. No, I am not talking about all of the 'intrigue' that goes on (that is for our edification), I am talking about the way that God has said to worship Him. That is based upon love.

Humans are just a hateful greedy bunch. Religion "the opiate of the masses" can't change that even though it tried. TV the new opiate of the masses will not succeed either. The human race is destined for oblivion.

False religion destroys people. If we actually experienced true love and are willing to give it back, there's no way u would destroy others. A lot of the christianity u see today has nothing to do with the 1st century movement that affected the whole world of its time. Jesus Christ himself said that people would come in his name and yet he wouldn't claim them cause they would be counterfeit.

Generality - the sanctity of a lazy mind.
No, there are religions that are not based on love that have destroyed people. There are religions based on love that have not destroyed people. It's pretty much a useless premise for a question.

Don't blame God for the foolish behavior of human beings. God IS love according to the BIble. Humanity is at fault for twisting the truth and doing hateful things in the name of God or religion. God gives us freewill and many times we exercise it very badly. It's a cop out to blame "religion" for the world's troubles....the blame belongs to us! Thank God Jesus loved us enough to give up his life so we could be with the Father!

Those based upon hate have probably caused a few deaths too... I'm not sure the Aztec religion was based upon "love".

In my view, every religion in the world has its arms "elbow deep" in blood to quench their thirst of power, control and exploitation of the naive, insecure and ignorant!
